Tulsa Radio

Sorry to hear about Kevan; enjoyed my time with him at KOOL. Tried to send him a note and the e/m on the article appears to be bad. Anybody know it? To keep it private, get me at [email protected]

One other OTHER possibility I don't think I've heard anybody throw out yet for 106.1 is syndicated talk.

They're owned by Clear Channel.

Clear Channel owns Rush. (Not literally, but you know what I mean.)

Could a 100 Kw FM trump an AM heritage & a 50 Kw FM? When you own the show?

Especially when you're doing this kind of thing in other markets?
http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,156044.msg1323226.html

This morning's headlines bring news that -- after a 20-year affiliation -- Rush Limbaugh will be leaving Curtis Media's WPTF/Raleigh and WSJS/Winston-Salem. Ditto other Premiere programs.

'Hard to believe that this is just "a North Carolina thing," eh?
ANY Rush-affiliated competitor in a Clear Channel market is now a time bomb.

Choking on debt -- and smelling-the-coffee that "music radio" is becoming an oxymoron -- Clear Channel will likely replicate this template elsewhere, putting their-own programming on their-own stations, in markets where, until now, they've been competing with it. 'Makes sense to Gordon Gekko guys who hold the debt, who call this "vertical integration."

Hm-m-m... anybody hear any rumblings at Cox Tulsa?

Maybe the guy from Blacklight Radio will buy/lease 1380 and put his music on that frequency? That would be cool.

That would be AMAZING... but there's NO WAY you could make that format pay, whether you put it on 1380, or 106.1's stick.

The format is just all over the road. There are some good ideas, some fun segues, & while it's true that most people like more than just one style, the programmer of BlackLight Radio takes it from slow classical pieces to contemporary metal. Us radio geeks get a kick out of it because we've all worked a million formats... but for the average radio listener, especially in any local market, it's just too much. It's manic / depressive radio, basically. It wouldn't work in New York, it wouldn't work in L.A. It wouldn't work in Chicago, it wouldn't work in Dallas, & it sure-the-heck wouldn't work here!

I suspect BlackLight Radio will either A) always be internet-only, & with little to no revenue and audience, or B) will morph into a more recognizable format with only a few, mild surprises.

Right now, I expect it makes the programmer happy... maybe a few other music nuts... but it's not a financially viable format. It's GOTTA be a hobby.

BTW, kxojdj, a friend suggested who you might be, and I agreed that they might be right. If they ARE right... I'm even more disappointed in the way you've treated Bob on these message boards. I really thought you were a better person than that. I'm saddened to think I was wrong. If you're who I think you are, it really undermines pretty much everything I've heard you say in the past.

Or, maybe I'm wrong.

It's possible too that Kool would just come back with the San Antonio version of classic hits. My understanding is that Kevan took some liberties (which I liked).

Prediction: if you are right, and kxojdj realizes they have been outed, they will disappear, and we may see a new poster show up. Just a thought.

That could eaisly happen all over the country. I'm surprised CC hasn't moved most of their Premiere radio network lineup over to their own stations. I guess they've been waiting for these contracts to end.

ROTFLMAO! Could be, ionophere, could be! ;)

SO funny. I am going out of town for a long weekend to attend a wedding. (not mine) Don't let me come back to a board lacking exciting posts. I will not be checking in and I do not carry a crack-berry or a like device. I expect some exciting news when I get back.

Maybe 99.5 will flip by then?? We finally have some excitement in the market.

And Bob, yes that was me shopping for a gift at Woodland Hills Mall earlier this week. Why didn't you say HI ??
