Tulsa Radio's Broadcast Unity Day for Hurricane Relief

Heard this on 94.1 The Sound while driving home tonight. Tulsa's LaFortune Park is going to be a jumping place tomorrow!

Broadcast Unity Day for Hurricane Relief

(Tulsa, OK) -- In an unprecedented move, 23 Tulsa radio stations will conduct an on-location broadcast this Friday, September 9th. The broadcasts, from LaFortune Park, are an effort to raise funds for the American Red Cross' Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

Each broadcast outlets will originate programming from the 58th and South Yale parking lot. Hours are from 6AM-through 6PM.

Hosts from each station will broadcast an appeal for monetary donations and listeners will be invited to stop by and meet the radio personalities. While radio stations and group operations have raised money separately, this is the first time that all of the Tulsa area radio outlets have agreed to work together to achieve a common goal.

Tulsa area television stations have also been invited to take part.<P ID="signature">______________

Isn't it wonderul that all of them stations can come together at a time like this? And since Oklahoma has had its share of tragedy in the past....this sort of thing is not surprising! Oklahomans are good people!

We're doing the same thing here in Tampa

PRESS RELEASE (OF COURSE, I didn't see any mention of this in any of the local newspapers this morning!) (also, the last paragraph says we should expect a lot of these events today)

This Friday, September 9th, on the West Side of Raymond James Stadium, over 20 Tampa Bay Area radio stations will be collecting cash donations to support the American Red Cross. For the first time, these Tampa radio stations will set aside their long-time rivalries and work together for a common goal.

Stations that have committed to this Friday’s Event are: Clear Channel’s 98ROCK (WXTB), 93.3 WFLZ, 620 WDAE The Sports Animal (WDAE), Mix 100.7 (WMTX), 95.7 The Beat (WBTP), Newsradio 970 WFLA, US 103.5 (WFUS); Cox Radio’s 97X (WSUN), 107.3 The Eagle (WXGL), 102.5 The Bone (WHPT), 101.5 The Point (WPOI), Magic 94.9 (WWRM), 105.5 The Dove (WDUV), Infinity Broadcasting’s Wild 98.7 (WLLD), 99.5 WQYK, La Nueva 92.5 (WYUU), Smooth Jazz 94.1 (WJST), Q105 (WRBQ); Genesis Broadcasting’s WWBA 1040, and 1470 ESPN; Tama Broadcasting’s WTMP (More stations to be added as commitments are made). All of these stations will be encouraging listeners to drop off monetary donations for Hurricane Katrina survivors.

This event is in conjunction with a nationwide effort by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) to make Friday, September 9th a day where all radio and TV stations put an extra heavy push on their efforts to raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims. The goal of the NAB is to raise $100,000,000 nationwide, and they will start things off with a donation of $1,000,000.
