Tupelo format changes - everyone has the same idea?

Geez, what the heck is happening in Tupelo?

I know there's been some ownership changes, with Telesouth getting WFTA and giving some others back to George Flinn… but the recent format changes are preplexing at best. I know that WSIB in Selmer flipped to country as "93.9 The Sheriff", and 95.9 is now SuperTalk, but the rest are all pretty much the same format:

96.3 - WXWX - oldies - "Oldies 96.3"
99.3 - WBVV - classic hits - "Big 99.3" simulcasting WTUP AM
101.9 - WFTA - classic hits - "Power 101"
102.3 - WSKK - classic hits - "The Shark"
102.9 - WWMR - classic hits - "Melissa 102.9"

Just how much classic hits radio can one tiny market stand? ;)

A friend pointed out I got this slightly wrong: Melissa 102.9 is actually variety hits, not classic hits. Still, it seems like overkill for such a small market. Perhaps Tupelo is like a lot of other small towns, there's just too many signals for too few people?
