Turkey and Syria quakes

Quake is reported to be at 7.8 it is the largest quake to hit the country since the 1999. Note there are videos that the Turkish news crews broadcasted where the buildings collapsed while covering rescue operations in the area. That 5000 death toll is a current report as of this posting.

Really big earthquake, combined with very lax construction requirements equal a lot of death and injuries.

Here is the current rescue operations in Syria.

Turns out some videos are getting blurred out of News outlets on YouTube due to building collapses in the epicenter area and the unknown fallout of how much bigger the death toll really is than the current reports. Note that 8700 death figure is from current rescue operations in the country.

Note So far there are three American's killed in Turkey. However that is still under investigation given that the rescue operations show 15k have been confirmed dead so far.

Note this is a preliminary report of death in Turkey and Syria as of today.

The building codes in Turkey and Syria are in the spotlight over buildings falling down as a result of the recent quakes in the areas closest to the epicenter.

Here is more fallout surrounding the Turkey/Syria quakes.

Wikipedia. Quoting one of the discussions: "The reason is that the current consensus at talk:Turkey is to use Turkey due to the fetch thst the current spelling is the WP:COMMONNAME used by most reliable English language sources."
"Fetch" looks like a typo and doesn't make sense, but I get the gist of your post. Wikipedia is agreeing with the Associated Press, which also is not accepting Turkiye yet, just as it hasn't recognized Czechia, which is what the Czech Republic has been requesting to be called.

Yeah, someone should have caught that and gotten it corrected.

Gotcha. The last place I would go for "the final word" on anything.
But The Associated Press is also withholding recognition of "Turkiye," so in this case Wikipedia is justified in at least trying to impose a Turkey/Turkiye rule -- although anyone who wants to change one for the other in an article can do so at will, knowing that not all such changes are ever caught and corrected.

AP has been quick to recognize new names for emerging nations exiting colonial rule, but when an established nation asks to be called something else for political or nationalistic reasons, AP has been know to exercise caution. Burma/Myanmar took years. Cambodia/Kampuchea was never recognized.

Another quake has hit Turkey. The Epicenter is in the same area that faced the 7.8 quake
