TURNTABLES

I was listening to Quinn and Cantara earlier this evening and they were trying to figure out how to use it. One of them not sure which one said he used Turntables at a radio station while the who had only been in radio 10 years and never used one. To make long story short one was trying to show the other one on how to cue a record at 1/4 or 1/2 turn . It was kind of funny to listen.
Just trying to break the ice here.

Ah, the good old days.

The good old days when turntables took about 13 revolutions to get up to speed. Try simply switching it on with the pot up and it's produce a whiny sound. Really good turntable jocks were part contortionist; able to reach behind themselves and slip-cue a 45 (rpm record, not a gun). Remember, once these old time 30-pound turntables got up to speed you didn't want to hold on too tight and risk getting dragged off your stool. The real risk came when you were working with a 78-rpm. More like 20-revs to get to speed. Used to be fun to put a sharp pencil on the turntable, fire it up and get outta the way. Watch that yellow missle slam into the acoustic tile on the wall. Sometimes it would hit point first and stick. A really good jock could make the wall look like a porcupine in minutes.
