A brand new FM with a familiar sound/brand: Radio-Info and others note the debut of "105.1 Jamz" in Crimson Tide country. Apex Broadcasting's new sign on, WALJ 105.1 (Northport/Tuscaloosa, AL) has an LMA agreement with Cox Media Group out of Birmingham. It'll feature personalities currently heard on Cox's urban WBHJ (Midfield/Birmingham) "95-7 Jamz", including the Roy Wood Jr. Morning Show.
One could look at this as a return home to West Alabama: The original "Jamz" debuted in 1996 when WBHJ was a 100kw Class C1 station licensed to Tuscaloosa, providing city grade coverage over that smaller market and rimshotting the larger Birmingham market. (FM 95.7 was eventually moved into Birmingham proper as a smaller, C2-class signal.)
No website up yet for T-town's Jamz (though registered for one), but they are on Facebook.
Fire away, kilamanjero!
