TV 51 KNWS-Katy/Houston....Adios!

Happened yesterday as KNWS-DT 51.1 has flipped to Azteca America, simulcasting 51.2. New programming on 51.2, I assume, will follow. If you're keeping score at home, that now means there are 3 stations in Houston simulcasting Azteca America (10.1, 51.1 & .2). From a 24 hour news station, to a 24 hour mess, it's been nice knowing you TV 51.

I was wondering if RTV-Retro Television plans to move on over to one of KNWS' subchannels? And what about the programming KNWS normally airs before the flip to Azteca (Judge Karen, Comics Unleashed, Judge Hatchett)-Will it be going over to Houston's 55 (KTBU)or KUBE-TV?

KUBE snatched up Cold Case, which was on 51 until recently ... even tho it doesn't really go with the rest of their programming. I'd say the rest of the shows -- and there aren't many -- would most likely end up on 55.

According to the FCC, the calls KNWS and KLDT are no more. They officially switched to KYAZ and KAZD, respectively, yesterday (12/29), meaning UVM will not be recycling the KAZH calls as originally thought. However, Johnson Broadcasting is still the official owner, so the consummation hasn't occurred yet, but I would imagine it's very close.

It looks like KPDF-CA 41 Phoenix is the only UVM-owned station broadcasting in digital right now, and if UVM plans to have the same lineup on all of their stations, this is what one can expect:

41.1 - Azteca America
41.2 - unused
41.3 - LATV
41.4 - unused

That is assuming that LATV is not already airing in Houston or Dallas.

Those KNWS calls will go fast. They might be some of TV's best call signs. Anybody in a major western market looking to relaunch their news department? Tip: take those calls too!

I wonder where their studios/MCR are located now. I do not think they are on westpark anymore?

OldChicago

The last address on file for them at the FCC is 9896 Bissonnet.

Una Vez Mas recently changed the call letters of their Brownsville station to KNWS-LP. Seems rather unusual to me.

They are parking the calls there. They may have an intent to use them elsewhere or make a deal with a station who wants them.
