TV-57 KAZH Houston

is set to be auctioned off on Dec. 11, per the Chronicle.

What will happen to this station? I never watch it, but is RTN a possibility or will it stay Spanish?

Thanks

Perhaps the owners of either KUVM/34 (which runs Azteca America) or KHLM/43 (running Multimedios) might be able to make a bid and move their programming to a full power signal. However both are now carried on Comcast, so they would have to decide if the added OTA viewers are worth the cost.

I hope it does NOT stay Spanish. I did not see the article in the Chron. Why is the station being auctioned off??

I only have cable-ready hooked up, so I'm wondering where KUVM is on the system. It's not on 76 (last I checked KUVM was there until Comcast messed around with the lineup, so I don't know where it's supposed to be now.).

You have to have the Comcast digital box to get both stations. KUVM is on 74, KHLM on 325.

Owner Pappas Broadcasting is in bankruptcy. Deservedly so, awful ownership group.

Might also be a chance for either KPRC, KHOU, or KTRK to pick up a duopoly partner on the cheap, but financing might be iffy these days...unless they can cough up cash.

More then likely it will be Spanish (hope not) If not Spanish, how bout another shopping channel or an Independent like Ch 51 & 55 with nothing but infomercials! If that happens, they might as well, turn the transmitter off!

I wouldn't mind something of a 55 hybrid, they don't play all informercials FYI. Their programming begins at 11a and ends at midnight.

haha, channel 51 KNWS is a WASTE , they should rename it to the Infomercial Channel!

Channel 51 and 55 will NEVER be as great as 26 and 39 was back in the 70s and 80s

Deregulation is what caused the flood of TV stations as they moved in from Conroe, Rosenberg, Baytown, etc. We got more TV not better TV.

So now that someone else has bought them, a new company, what will happen. I believe one of the founder's of this company, owns KDOC-TV Los Angeles, which tags itself as "Endless Classics". If that is what we have to look forward to, then GREAT. :) I personally see channel 51 eventually going spanish, they are on a death bed now......

After looking over their program schedule I would IMO see little to no chance of this happening, at least on 57.

Reason I say this is because they broadcast most of the same programs as 51 & 55 already show. Judge Hatchett, Judge Karen, Hawaii 5-0, Brady Bunch (I believe 51 owns the rights to show), Frasier, Quincy, Matlock (use to show on 55). The only shows I see they do have not currently being shown here are Perry Mason, Andy Griffith and Twilight Zone.

Not to mention their weekend lineup is even more watered down than 51, if that's possible. Their lineup starts at 7p? Huh.

I would welcome something of this nature or RTN to 57 with open arms but I won't hold my breath.

Don't forget 20!

But even now all 3 former independent, now major, UHF stations still seem like the independents back then when network programming is not running such as during the day and late night. (Fox might want to shut down MNTV and use the cash to beef up Fox to be competitive with the Big 3 like adding news, daytime, late night comedy, and moving it's o&os to channels around the big 3. Pre-digital era ex.: KRIV moves to channel 5)
