TV Airchecks?

So, I know many of us on these boards take a boombox with us and roll tape on radio stations when we go on vacation.

How about TV? Anybody here take a small flatscreen LCD with ATSC tuner and rabbit ears with them to check out OTA TV reception while on vacation? Maybe to see what TV stations are doing on their DT2, DT3, and DT4 channels? I realize that would all be difficult/impossible to aircheck with anything other than a video camera pointed at the screen.

Just curious :)

I have been a collector of tv airchecks for several years. Started out with just a tape recorder, and now use a dvd player/recorder in order collect them. This summer was the 1st time I had an hd tv with me and was able to watch but not record. Most station are either the tube or weather. Some had the cw or MY. I'm looking for airchecks from just about every market out there. If you have any station IDs or sign on/off and would like to trade let me know.

Your challenge may be to try and find stations that honestly try not to be a part of any kind of "Cookie cutter" Television.

I'm sure there's some of that out there somewhere. (It's also something I wouldn't mind collecting, myself.)

I know that there's a group of folks out there - and I'm among them - who collect local newscasts - basically one of the last vestiges of "localness" in local TV. With local newscasts, you also usually get some sort of station ID/Logo, so that's a plus... I also have a friend who collects "weathercasts" from stations - he's a weather junkie...

Yes there a few stations out there doing truly local programming, but they are few and far between...

Right now I have newscasts from over 832 different stations (I don't count satellites unless it's a separate newscast, nor do I count stations that rebroadcast another stations' newscast - i.e., a latenight rebroadcast of a Fox affiliate on the CW) from 225 markets in the US and Canada + 8 other areas outside the US & Canada...

I also have some signons/signoffs - some recent, some old. Now with 20/20 hindsight, I wish I had recorded entire newscasts going back when I first started, rather than just the opens & closes...

I too started collecting TV airchecks with a tape recorder and DXing, then later a VCR, finally DVD. While I always had a general interest, the 'hobby' part of it didn't start until '91. Wish I had started collecting sooner.

Always looking for more stuff, either new or old. What I've gathered can be seen at this address:
