TV antenna cement footing mount some questions

I have a VU90 XR antenna from Radio Shack that I plan on ground mounting in my back yard since my parents won't allow me to mount it to the house. The antenna its self will be about 20ft in the air and easy to take down. I was thinking of setting a piece of pipe in the ground about 5 or so feet with a cement footing around it and staking my mast on top of it. I was thinking the piece of pipe in with a footing would be easier incase I want to switch over to a telescoping mast. About how much cement will I need for this task, what kind of cement, and what how far down should the footing be? I appologize for the lengthy post and really appriciate the help in advance

The last time I did this, I poured about 2 feet deep by one foot in diameter for a 30 foot mast. But I didn't set any pipe in the cement, there are swivel joints made specifically for the job. The reason is to act as a strain relief in the event of antenna rotation, enough repeated torques can weaken and destroy the concrete.

Be sure and properly guy wire your antenna - a 20 foot free standing mast will bend easily. I wouldn't recommend over 4 to 5 feet, less than that if you can manage. I only have so much to accomodate a rotor and a roof line (it is complicated).

Awsome, Thanks for the help Bruce ! I am going to buy a 30 ft telescoping mast this weekend, if I can find one here in the Dallas area. I just have a tv antenna but may add a whip antenna for my scanner on that same mast. thanks for the help again

I actually live in the Dallas area myself. You might try Tanner, I don't recall seeing antenna hardware there, but I wasn't looking for it at the time. Frys might be another good place to look.

92.9 is an interesting frequency in DFW. I can get five different stations depending on direction I have it pointed.
