TV Audio -> Radio (severe weather)

In 2015, a tornado hit a portion of the eastern part of the KC area.

Since it was a Sunday, KMBZ AM (and IIRC, FM) rebroadcast the KMBC TV 9 severe weather coverage audio [the station(s) have a agreement that KMBC provides weather forecasts (generally live, as part of the live talk shows on KMBZ)].

Is this rebroadcasting of TV audio on an a local radio station (during severe weather or disaster) common in other parts of the USA (possibly due to minimal staff at some radio stations on nights and weekends)?

Yes, it happens all the time.

Yep. Even SXM will create a channel which just carries audio only from cable's The Weather Channel during severe WX events.
