TV coverage of the Arizona shooting incident

I hate that it took a shooting incident that involved several people, including an Arizona congresswoman but it was an opportunity for me to see live streaming of the several of the TV channels in the Tucson area. Currently, I have put on the streams of KOLD (CBS), KGUN (ABC) and KVOA (NBC). The Fox station (KMSB) hasn't yet put up a link to a stream, AFAIK. I haven't been able to access the CW station, but I doubt they are doing live coverage of the incident.

From what I have been seeing so far, KOLD looks to have a better presentation, although all of them are doing a decent job. News is still developing.

I doubt if KMSB is covering it live, because KTVK was picking up KGUN (not its sister).

KWBA (CW) was bought four years ago by KGUN, and they air a 9pm news from them.

Phoenix coverage is wall to wall on everyone except KPNX, which has to air football. (At first, KSAZ ran Fox News Channel and KPNX picked up CNN, then KVOA, then MSNBC, which itself picked up KVOA. Nobody else was local and live immediately at first.)

KPNX 12 did local and MSNBC coverage until 2:30 PM MT (blowing out the NFL pre-game show),
then shifted news coverage to 12.2 with the NFL game airing on the primary 12.1.

I'm not sure what regular programming was scheduled on CBS and ABC this afternoon, but
KPHO-TV 5 (CBS) and KNXV-TV 15 (ABC) pre-empted it for news coverage on their primary
x.1 channels, while staying with weather/traffic loops on the x.2 sub-channels. KSAZ-TV 10
(Fox) runs the same feed on 10.1 and 10.2, in this case also news coverage.

Discovered that ABC feeds its Saturday World News at 6 PM ET, in addition to 6:30.

KNXV-TV 15 Phoenix aired the first fifteen minutes of it at 4 PM MT, to--as local anchor
Katie Raml said--get a national feel of the shooting story and reaction to it. The station
normally runs the ABC 'cast at 5:30 MT.

As of 4:25 pm MT - 12.2 is back to a simulcast of MSNBC (which is live with KPNX's Rachel Stockman in the neighborhood where the shooter lives.)

When I saw that I was confused too, since I too thought ABC World News Saturday only was fed at 6:30.

The only station offering any sort of coverage now is KVOA 4 (And even that is online only @ kvoa.com) though I suspect activity will pick up again at 10:00 PM (9:00 PM on KSAZ 10).

Cheers :D

BTW.....KVOA just reported that the 9 year old girl who was killed was born on 9/11 (Yes that one)

Today's edition of "World News (Tonight)" in which the entire program was dedicated to the shooting incident was the first weekend edition I ever saw, as WEAR-TV in Pensacola, Florida started broadcasting the Saturday edition last week, according to an employee of the station (I had missed last week's program). Thankfully David Muir did not say "apparently" again, as he did during the special reports broadcast earlier, or I would have changed the channel.

It's an ordinary calendar date.

Yeah but it's an odd factoid that this 9 year old was born on 9-11-01, and has now unfortunately died in what can only be described as an act just as senseless as that.

Its going to be interesting to see how all the news channels will spin this one in the days and months ahead. My thoughts and prayers goes out to Mrs. Giffords and her family.

Meanwhile, I can't wait to see how the entertainment news shows deal with this one; Gabrielle Giffords' cousin is Gwyneth Paltrow.

Sunday morning at 7:39 MST/9:39 ET, Lester Holt was speaking with a former classmate of the suspect, "LIVE" on NBC. The word "LIVE" appeared only when the classmate spoke, not when he asked questions. I found that odd and flipped to MSNBC. There he was reporting "LIVE" at the scene giving news accounts. While I believe the interviewee was live, I cannot understand how NBC/MSNBC pulled that off.

What station/market was this? Since you used the MT time reference, I'm guessing you may
be in Tucson. Sunday Today airs live 8-9 AM ET, followed by Meet The Press 9-10 AM ET.
While I can't speak for today specifically, normally KVOA-TV 4 Tucson airs each show on a
one hour delay (7-8 and 8-9 MT), so if in Tucson you were seeing Lester delayed on OTA NBC
and Lester live on cable MSNBC. Just one of the glorious pleasures of living in the Mountain
Time Zone (the time zone the networks still forget ;)). And even stranger in wacky AZ MT.

BTW, KPNX(TV) 12 Mesa (Phoenix market NBC) runs the two shows live 6-8 AM MT.

But not when AZ is the equivalent of PDT, right? (Since the shows still air 6-8 AM during that time of the year?)

Correct--not live on KPNX during DST, but on a one hour delay.

AFAIK, KVOA does 7-9 AM year-round, meaning a two-hour delay during the eight month
"summer" period.
