TV/FM DX May 19th

First E-Skip of the season Friday May 19th, from near Poughkeepsie, NY.First, I thought I’d experiment a bit and try hooking up a spare TV to my FM antenna, and ended up with:UnID - 3 with cartoons in Spanish around 10:35am KBRZ - 2 Baton Rouge, LA at 11am.UnID - 2 with animation (English) around the same time.FM DX between noon and 1pm brought three new logs:12:00 noon WPYO-95.3 Maitland, FL with “Maitland - Orlando” ID, “Orlando’s new #1 for hip-hop”. 1006 miles.12:30 pm WKZY-106.9 Cross City, FL “KZY” with “Food for your ears” in a “Spam free zone”. Florida # 68, at 978 miles.I thought I’d try car radio in my garage as skip started dying out. This radio has better selectivity and no overload issues, but of course no FM yagi and less sensitivity. I got:12:59 pm WRLD-95.3 Valley, AL “Boomer-95.3” with Oldies, “Valley’s oldies station”, for FM log #688 since 2003. 878 miles. Some old friends during the hour or so opening:WSRX-89.5 Naples, FLWTLT-93.7 Naples FL “Light 93.7”WSMR-89.1 Sarasota FL “Life 89.1”WSJT-94.1 Lakeland FL soft jazzWWRZ-98.3 Ft. Meade, FL “Max 98.3” (heard in 2005 as “The Rose”)WGCO-98.3 Midway, GA “Jack FM” (heard in 2003 as “Oldies 98.3“)WUWF-88.1 Pensacola, FL NPR (heard quite often)WDJC-93.7 Birmingham, AL All FM DX on Boston Acoustics Recepter Radio (non-HD). WRLD and WUWF on standard Honda car radio.

I caught my first Es of the season as well, with one new FM. Amazingly, someone else only 100 miles NE of me had his radio filled with Canadian French-language stations at the same time. Sadly, my opening wasn't very strong.Location: Lenexa, KS.2 XEPM Cd. Juarez2 KNAZ Flagstaff, AZ3 KVBC Las Vegas, NV92.1 KFMA Green Valley, AZ96.9 XHCPH Hidalgo de Parral, CHI (new)

God i remember having an OFF AIR tv antenna :(12/11/10M has been quite active also lately..........(I mi$$ed the DX between 88 and 108Mhz the other day :()

May 20th Es

I'm a cheapskate. I haven't have cable TV in 7 years. I use a 44" antenna on top of the TV, though, rather than an outdoor antenna. Now for Saturday morning, May 20th, in Lenexa, KS. KNAZ is in again (showing KPNX's news), along with KVBC, and probably KTVK fighting it out.new FM: 90.9 KGCB/Prescott, AZ "the light/lighthouse?" religious, heard the call letters in an extended burst over semi-local KTBG (airing "What Do You Know").Also heard KAFF/92.9 from Flagstaff.

E-Skip on 5/20/06 in Phoenix, Arizona

Using a Boston Recepter HD with its "whip" antenna (as well as a Philips/Magnavox boombox circa 1999 with telescopic antenna), I received these stations from South Dakota this morning between 9:45 and 10:30:
  • KELO-FM "Lite 92.5" - Sioux Falls (Recepter HD)
  • KMXC "Mix 97-3" - Sioux Falls (Recepter HD; another station airing ABC News was also coming in and out on this frequency, but didn't get the ID)
  • Oldies station on 98.3, which was most likely NOT KKLD Prescott Valley, AZ, playing Four Tops' "I'll Be There," among other songs (KUQL Mitchell, SD?) (Recepter HD)
  • KTWB 101.9 - Sioux Falls (Philips/Magnavox)
