TV Guide Channel - All Anna Nicole, all day

TV Guide Channel has discontinued all regular programming for coverage on repeated loop of Anna Nicole Smiths' death. (The scrolling listings remain).

What will it take to get rid of this channel? They ruined the magazine, and more people are using set-top boxes and the Internet to get their listings.

Hi everyone:

What I don't get is why are you taking the time to watch it. All TV Guide Channel is a stupid onscreen TV listings channel. The stuff you see at the top just simply pays the bills.

If you want to watch a real channel, watch something else besides TV Guide Channel. It's that simple.

Cheers :D

Pat

I don't mind the scrolling channel guide, although I don't watch it much. But it's ridiculous for them to go to nothing but coverage of Anna Nicole Smith's death. But then E! is probably doing the same thing. It's sad that she's dead, but this is ridiculous.

I get the TV guide channel but it doesn't bother me...because I have it blocked and go right over it. Try it...you'll never get mad at that channel again.

When I was growing up back in the early 90's, my local cable company had a TV listings channel but with on screen ads and a simulcast of a local radio station. Ten times better than the TV Guide Channel today

Oh, how I wish the Prevue Channel was still around. They stuck to what this channel was all about: TV Listings on the bottom, and commercials of programs on the top, not to mention that classy music playing in the background. I was fortunate to have been born when I was as I was able to see the channel before it was converted in 1999. It's a shame, because TV back in the '90s was better than it is now and all I watched was the Prevue Channel.

No kidding. I didn't think TV Guide Channel was all that bad either when they first took the channel over. Jarring colors yes, but hey, at least they didn't show COJO...I HATEthat guy!

It still is, in spirit...

YouTube is the word!

There's also a few local EPG's (which I think Brian was referring to above) on there as well.

I've seen all of them, but of course it's not the same. Although, those videos are great to see.

Thanks for mentioning it though. It's nice to know others like the Prevue Channel like I did.

It's an interesting topic as, in a sense, the TV Guide Channel is the modern day incarnatino of Prevue. TV Guide's original 'channel'--circa mid '90s--was nothing but listings and sort of "soundscapes" background music. When the owners of the Prevue Channel bought control of TV Guide (not the other way around as Wikipedia has it), they kept the TV Guide name and slapped it on top of the Prevue system with a slight face lift. The original TV Guide Channel ceased to exist. Ultimately the magazine and channel needed to become what they are to have any hope of survival in a world where both technologies are woefully outdated when satellite and digital cable offers hundreds of channels and, in cable's case, on demand shows on top of that.

And the fact that the TV Guide Channel now airs infomercials over listings tells you how far they've come...
