TV Guide Channel on Dish Network - LOL

I noticed that sometime in the past 2 or 3 weeks the Dish Network system we have at work added the TV Guide Channel. Now here's the kicker. They only list about 10 channels on it. With the TV Guide Channel listing only 10 channels on Dish Network and with Dish Network having an on-screen guide on it that lists all the channels, I see TV Guide Channel as a waste of space on Dish Network.

DirecTV carries the TV Guide channel but it doesn't actually show listings - it just shows the regular TVG channel programming.

For some reason the people at the TV Guide Channel think that people actually WANT to watch the crap that they put ontop. So they shove the listings down farther.

Someone should do a survey:

What do you use TV Guide Channel for?

The Programming ontop
The listings on bottom

I'm going to guess the majority would come out as "Listings on bottom"<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah. I know I watch for the listings at the bottom. (Since we can't offered Digital Cable or Satellite where they have the luxary of Onscreen Listings). I think most of the stuff at the top is garbage, especially the show where they hypnotize people and convince them they're stars of popular TV shows.

The top of the TV Guide Channel should only be used for the following:

Previews of TV Shows
Previews of Movies
Infomation about the Cable Company
And commercials for businesses that sponsor the listings.

And for heaven safes turn off the Closed Captioning. The stupid Closed Captioning Covers Up the listings.

I don't know about you, but I sure do miss the Prevue Channel. When I was small, I was fascinated with the "prevue guide". They used to show what was on "Tonight", they'd advertise businesses, etc. But now, it has taken the path that TV in general is taking. TV was simple back in the '90s (1992 when the Prevue Guide started).

I also loved Sneak Prevue that showed pay-per-view previews. All it is now is on-screen ordering. Things are becoming very "tacky" and way too simple.

Sign of the times, listings move too slow

Ever since I was able to jump on the net to find TV listings or use the onscreen listings for the digital cable, I find the TVGuide listings move way to slow.

Sure, the Prevue Guide Channel and when TVGuide in its inception move slower and actually stopped for a few seconds for every few channels. But now the channel is nothing more than the new home of Joan Rivers.

They did show listings for the first month or two.

I used to record EPG (Electric Program Guide) which was just the TV listings with the local radio station playing as the audio which was used before Prevue started in 1992-1993.

I also recorded Prevue a lot.

I had an obsession with EPG and Prevue back then. Think I was about 4 or 5 years old.

Re: TV Guide Channel on Dish Network - LOL(future with DTV)

I have heard that the with DTV TV stations will be able to devote a piece of their spectrum to broadcasting their daily schedule.

I wonder if that becomes popular would we even need a TV Guide type listings channel<P ID="signature">______________

It's part of the "Meta Data" in the DTV stream.

IIRC, the carriage of the TV Guide channel on Dish is part of the settlement in one of the Echostar/Gemstar disputes of the last few years.<P ID="signature">______________
