TV Land Reality Check

The spot load problem is getting worse, especially with the Friday movie. Some quarter hours have two spot breaks of between four and five minutes each, making program time and commercial time just about equal, at times.

Some intertestimg additions coming up, amomng them M*A*S*H. But how it will be mercilessly cut up for commercial breaks is almost a foregone conclusion.

I Pity the Fool with Mr. T--bad acting and all--has become the as expected loser of all time (althoujgh TVL still manages to load it wth endless commercials).

Others???

In my opinion, TV Land has gone to the dogs, and one most recent example is them showing a marathon of That Girl for the weekend and then the show doesn't even get shown regularly on the network either on weekdays and/or weekends.

Viacom/CBS/or whoever is in charge has ruined every network that they have touched from The Nashville Network/National Network/Spike, Nick At Nite, Nickelodeon, CMT, MTV, and VH1 in that they don't show what they are supposed to show.

TV Land is so frustrating because of the potential that it never even comes close to.

Why run 2 of the same show every day when they have loads of other shows available. Why not run it like any other network and have different shows every night. Hell, they could even duplicate old network scheduals from the 60s or 70s.

And on M*A*S*H, I shudder to think what they will cut out. Seeing that on Hallmark is bad enough. Remember when Hallmark started running M*A*S*H and they ran them uncut? Not any more. And in the TV Land marathon they are promising, I expect to see the same shows over and over. They could run every show over a long weekend and never show the same one twice. But I'm sure they will pick 20 out of the over 100 shows available and run those 20 over and over.

Yes, TV Land is a huge dissapointment. Think about all the other crap on TV, stuff you would never watch. And think of all the "Time Tested" shows TV Land has in their vaults. If they used their brains for more than a hatrack, they could probably beat a few of the big networks some nights of the week.

Excelsior!

makes no sense for TV LAND to air series (such as MASH) which have been already issued uncut on DVD

Makes even less sense for TV Land (or its sisterm Nick at Nite) to pick up a series and introduce it with a marathon, only to shelve it a short time later -- or less (remember "That Girl"?).

Now we know--getting a series like M*A*S*H is one thing but doing something with it besides making it a filler between commercials is something else again. The observation that TVL will find some way to muck up the show is an understatement.
