TV Land runs early, then late WTF?

There is probably an obvious answer to this. Tuned in for a few days to see Hogans Heroes which is scheduled to begin at 11 AM Central time. Each time I tuned in, the program was already about 10 minutes into the run. Matter of fact, Thursday the 11:30 program began at 11:18. That's DirecTV time, not my watch. Just before 4 PM, I clicked in there to find the 4 PM program was starting at like 4:02.

Somewhere along the way, they picked up an extra 12 minutes. Probably because they've oversold the western block or some such. Anyone know, beside my speculation, what the REAL reason is for such lopsided timing on a TV network?

I'd noticed that lately on TV Land in the daytime as well. They've probably stuffed more ad time in. I doubt that they're actually showing uncut episodes, which would be the other main cause of shows running long now.

I think they might be doing what TBS started in the 80's, with the late starts. Hoping you will stay on that channel and see that the "other" channels' show are in progress.

Except that shows scheduled on TBS for, say, 8:05 PM, start right at 8:05 PM. Shows on TV Land (and most other Viacom networks) either start earlier or later than normally scheduled, inconveniencing those tuning in at the scheduled time or recording it for later.

TVLand at night has been up to 15 minutes off for months. It rarely ever matches the :00 or :30 starts for Roseanne, especially, sometimes by 2a.m. "The Nanny" would start on time, but the rest between 10pm and 2am is a mashup.

Maybe with any luck, "The Nanny" will be so far from it's original scheduled time, that it will be pre-empted (maybe for an infomercial), thus inadvertantly enhancing the channel's appeal in the meantime. TV Land, what a joke now.

Last night after watching MASH out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Roseanne started at 11:05. Then the next Roseanne at 11:40. Maybe it's only certain show blocks that they lengthen. Maybe they are trying to make their pool of available episodes stay fresher longer [hahaha: too late].

TV Land is in such bad shape that the station now consists of an uplink, 2 VHS machines, stacks of random tapes
and an engineer/tech/janitor who sits in the control room with a case of malt liquor and a fifth of Wild Irish Rose?

Just a guess.... ;)

I also noticed this unconventional programming time shift a couple of weeks ago. One Saturday afternoon, I took the wife to visit a relative in the hospital and sat in a waiting room with a TV set on TVland. There was an "Andy Griffith" marathon running. Soon, I noticed that the shows didn't begin/end on the hour and half hour. but at either :20 or :40 past the hour. I also noticed that these episodes seemed to be uncut and full length, but still packed with commercials. I recall watching AG on WTBS 20+ years ago and they were chopped to pieces in order to stuff in more ads. It almost made me want to throw good $$$ at something as useless as pay TV. When ION was running MASH weekend marathons last summer, those episodes were butchered so severely that if you hadn't seen the original uncut shows, you'd be lost! I'm suprised that TVland is still around, since most of us can BUY an entire season of favorite TV shows and view them when WE choose and as often as we choose!

And when one wonders why TVL shows things like "High School Reunion" or "Cougar of the Year" or what have you, the ugly truth is that these shows hold a different key to the channel's survival.

Now, who's up for another mini-marathon of "Fresh Prince"?

I don't think Viacom has the rights to Fresh Prince. I think DISNEY has the exlusive Cable Rights for DISNEY XD and up until a couple weeks ago ABC Family. It still airs on local stations including WTXX in Hartford. In fact last week the station took a dump in the middle of Vampire on Thursday night and when they returned to the air Fresh Prince was on. When WTXX took a dump again Friday afternoon in the middle of Judge Alex Fresh Prince came on again for 5 mins before Judge Alex came back. WTXX made up for Thursday by airing Vampire at 7PM in Saturday replacing a rerun of House.

"Fresh Prince" reruns still air on TBS. I know because I saw it on the network the other day... (allow me to get into MarcB "TMI" mode for a minute... :D ) TBS was on one of the monitors at my local health club; it was the one in which Will got shot and was laid up in a hospital. You can imagine how tempted I was to break up the monotony of that health club group and just shout at the TV, "OMIGOD!!! WILL SMITH IS SHOT!?!?!" ;D
