TV Land Spot Load

Any guesses from whomever/wherever as to how much more TV Lamd will expand its commercial breaks? During Andy Griffith tonight (Fri 07/28) a break at :47 ran six minutes, then back to program for two minutes, show close, another six minute break.

Movie Top Gun finally rolled at :03, with first five minute commercial break at :12. Didn't watch any further, had my fill of commercials. At that rate Top Gun will turn into an all nighter unless it's seriously edited, which it no doubt will be.

TV Land has been cranking increasing numbers of spots into each hour but the practice seems now to have crossed the line into being outright ridiculous.

I've noticed the same thing. Obviously, the brian trust never heard of TiVo or remote control of 100 plus channels.

Who remembers ten years ago when TV Land was all retromercials?

And the retros were infinitely preferable to the endless drivel that is today's commercials. There are, however, some good ones now. The Beneful spots featuring the man and his dog stand out.

Not only is TV Land killing us with the spot load but how about those promos over, and over, and over, and over again? Those two idiots promoting the movie that I have already seen and have no interest in. And the First Time promos. If I was at all interested in the shows they over hype, they now just kill it for me. Plus they shrink the credits. All the people that have worked hard on classic shows have been reduced to a few unreadable inches on the screen. TV Land is going in the wrong direction in my opinion. It is getting more & more unwatchable.

The actions of those making decisions at TV Land are devoid of even a modicum of logic. They just compound one bad move with a dozen more following it. Agree about the ditzy couple. The loopy girl and the androgenous "guy" (?) are so bad they can in no way even be considered as quirky.

When did TV Land start screwing with the start times of shows?
I hadn't watched the channel in quite some time, but tried recording several 'Benson' episodes when TV Land added that show. I soon realized I was getting all the commercials at the top of the hour, and missing the last five minutes because of their idiotic scheduling.
And of course, it's not like the TV channel guide could indicate a late start time!

The practice you've pointed out, commercial overload, all the stunting and dumb moves--will fairly quickly sink TV Land. People attempting to watch realize this but apparently the geniuses at TV Land don't.

Yet Viacom has been pulling this stunt for many of their channels the last several years, from established channels like Nick, MTV and CMT (look what they did with Hee Haw in another thread), to new channels like Nicktoons, MTV2 and now, VH1 Classic.

Viscom especially worked the newer channels by using the best material with little or no commercials or interference for the first year or two, then, when more cable systems come on board, tear them to shreds with the same stuff as the parents channels, lots of on-screen promos, edits, commercials, etc.

Viacom's shenannigans is one reason why its less and less worth it to subscribe to cable.

CMT has grown increasingly worse with their programming more and more. Showing the Miss America Pageant for the 200th time, showing reality shows such as Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: Making The Grade,Inside The Coyote Ugly,Hulk Hogan,Ted Nugent, showing a country version of America's Funniest Home Videos, showing old movies which have nothing to do with country music like "Overboard" with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, etc.

As another poster said,"You can't go home again" and I agree with that. CMT should change its name because it has nothing much to do with country music anymore. They should call it MTV3 or something of that nature.
