When I attended college in 1998, I first watched TV Land. It was a great network, which featured shows like "All in the Family," "Sanford & Son" (which airs to this day) and "Hill Street Blues." Now, TV Land is making too many changes to their schedule. They added shows that they can't keep on the air. "Benson" is a fair, but not a great show. Why did TV Land air "Benson" in the first place after dropping the show a few month later? The same thing for "Night Court" and other shows? Also, TV Land is returning shows that they use to air like "The Jeffersons."
My thing is this: I don't enjoy watching TV Land anymore because if I get used to a show that I really like, I would be very afraid that they would could drop the show it anytime. Yes, networks have to right to last-minute program changes. It seems to me that TV Land has made the most changes to their schedule than any other network on cable television. This is crazy!
Despite my differences with TV Land, at least they are producing some original programming and plan to add more recurrent shows including "Just Shoot Me" and "Scrubs" to the line-up next year. Also, they have aired "the Andy Griffith Show" for awhile now. I hope they have some success with "Star Trek" and "M*A*S*H."
NOW, HERE WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE IF I WAS AT TV LAND:
- I would have added "Mama's Family" because it had a successful run on TBS even though it aired early in the morning and would be a great show before or after "Andy Griffith." Too bad Ion TV has rights to the show.
- I would bring back "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie" to the morning line-up. I think TV Land has plans to bring back these classic shows next year.
- "Nick at Nite" aired "Murphy Brown" and "Designing Women." I think those shows should have aired on TV Land first because they skew towards a slightly older demo. Even though TV Land is trying to get younger, it has more older viewers compared to Nick at Nite.
- I think "Coach" should be added the TV Land line-up, but I know USA has rights to the show. It was briefly aired on Nick at Nite a few years ago.
- "Growing Pains" will be on Nick at Nite soon, but I would have added the show on TV Land. I think "Who's the Boss" should be added on well (despite a short run on Nick at Nite).
- "The A-Team" has aired on TV Land off and on. "A-Team" is a reasonable show, but where's "The Fall Guy?"
- Changing channels: "Nick at Nite" is going younger too. They was be adding "the Nanny" and "Friends" to their line-up in the next few years. I wasn't a fan of "The Drew Carey Show," but I think it would be great for their network.
