I know New York Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, and some other newspaper don't published TV Listings on Sunday anymore.

The Dallas Morning News still has a Sunday TV insert. The Tacoma News Tribune still does, as well.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal still has a Sunday TV section, but only for subscribers. The Jackson, TN Sun has only been including the TV section in papers in the immediate Jackson area, probably ones covered by Charter Cable, in recent years.

As of today (Dec. 8, 2008), the Seattle Times is not publishing the TV grid in its daily editions. The Sunday section still remains.

The Sunday Times-Tribune In Scranton, PA. And The Times Leader In Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Both Have Sunday TV Inserts.

I know of three papers in Virginia ( The Winchester Star, Northern Virginia Daily and Harrisonburg-News Record ) who publish their TV Listings on SATURDAY because due to "the day of rest" rule, those three newspapers are not allowed to be published on Sundays.

That is what the Star/Record publisher Harry Bryd has said over the years anyway.

The two Salt Lake City papers share a Sunday section, I think (haven't read it for a few weeks, but it was there when I did). Also, the paper from Macon, GA still has a TV section.

Most papers don't have a whole lot in the listings, though. It's often just titles and times.

My complaint with the SLC listings....they show an icon for "stereo" (little headphones) and "closed-captioned" (CC) on virtually every listing. Of course, nearly everything IS in stereo and CC. So, why not use that space to tell us if it's in HDTV? And, why aren't there any listings (or, even an acknowledgement that they exist) for any subchannel programming? Of the ten stations doing DTV, there are 22-23 channels of programming.

I'd have to ask my parents, because I admit I haven't been home to look at the Lynchburg (VA) paper, but it's been carrying the weekly TV listings in the Friday paper for a very long time. I never understood why it was on Friday and not one of the days of the weekend...

The Savannah Morning News (Ga.) still has a pull-out TV tab, ditto for The Montgomery Advertiser (Ala.)

While I haven't consulted any printed listings in many a moon (we have Dish), I'm glad they're still around for the benefit of those receiving OTA or don't have digital cable/satellite .... not to mention the TV geek in all of us. :)

My hometown paper used to publish TV listings on Friday. Their Saturday edition was optional when folks subscribed, and they only published 6 days a week.

The Houston Chronicle cancelled the TV mag about a year ago or so, but brought it back "due to popular demand". Still also have daily listings. It gave some explanation and says it was adding Encore's Western Channel, Hallmark and Hallmark Movie Channel to the listings......Sounds like the older set took pen to paper to write a letter to the editor ;D :D ;D

The Charlotte Observer still has a weekly Sunday TV Magazine, though it is a ghost of it's former self. They still list a lot of cable channels plus the 10 locals, all in small print and one or two very short feature articles--they still devote almost a page to channel logs for the various cable systems in the area, plus Direct and Dish. Considering there are NO program descriptions whatsoever, this seems a waste. The Observer still has daily listings as well, consisting of the 10 locals plus SIX cable channels (ESPN1, Golf, Speed, HBO, and Showtime). The listing only covers from 8PM to midnight. The only program descriptions are guests on daytime talkers such as Oprah, Phil, and Tyra. All of this covers at most one fourth of a page---the old daily listings were always over a page. Of course, the entire paper has been reduced in like fashion, so its noy as if they're picking on TV. What a shame, the Observer used to be a really big metropolitan newspaper.

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution still has their Sunday pullout and daily listings. The Marietta Daily Journal in the suburbs has discontinued theirs.

In my travels, it's looking about half-and-half between papers that still do a Sunday TV book and those that have cancelled them.

I don't think there's a newspaper publisher in American who still wants to be doing a TV book - they cost money to obtain the listings, even more if special production is required (the Democrat and Chronicle here in Rochester still does theirs as a glue-bound digest-sized magazine, and sell almost no advertising...but they draw big, big protests from older readers if they go away.

Many of the very biggest papers have axed them - they're gone from the NY Times (circa 2006), the Boston Globe (a few weeks ago), the LA Times (at least for newsstand copies, as of a few years back), for instance.

Here in Tampa Bay, both the St. Pete Times and Tampa Tribune still have Sunday magazines.

The Trib's have been downsized a couple of years ago and is now largely produced by Zap2It, with mainly just grids. At first, the Trib only planned for one edition of their magazine, with channels as far south as Fort Myers and as far north as Gainesville -- confusion from readers led the Trib to restore regional editions the following week. As for daily listings, the Trib cancelled them earlier this past Spring when they overhauled the paper the first time (they did it again last Summer, but that's another story).

The Times' "TV Times" has 24/7 grids, plus separate programming details for the aerial channels (like how TV Guide used to be), and sections for movies. The Times still has daily TV listings for prime time (8PM to Midnight -- since the 1990s, before that it was 6PM to Midnight). This is all despite the Times overhauling themselves, though nowhere as drastic as the Trib.
