The software probably works OK but I found the ad to be really deceptive.

I doubt the TV shows it gets you are any good. You are probably better off with WinAmp which is free.

Notice how they lump things together. The ad says "Thousands of channels and clips." How many of the "thousands" are channels and how many are clips?

It says you can save "hundreds" on your cable bill. I cancelled my cable and now save hundreds.

There are a LOT of free TV stations available on the net. I have found most of them tend to lean toward political rants.

Look at this, it says
"3000+ channels and clips
The Latest Movie Trailers
The Hottest Music Videos
Shows from Around the country and Around the World"

Movie TRAILERS not movies. Shows from around the world. Nothing like a local cable access show from Romania huh?

Consumer Alert! Don't buy anything like this.

Everything they have is already available for free at places like http://www.wwitv.com/. America One and a few Asian channels charge for their streams, and maybe some of these products include those, but you're not missing much (and a lot of A1 programming is available online from ZTV-11 in Athens, AL anyway).

If you like local news, religion, and shopping, online TV is for you. There isn't much else, at least in English. If you speak Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, German, or Russian, there is some decent entertainment programming available.

Just heard the ad on the radio (...again...) and went to a site called Sling Media. I clicked then on a link for Best Buy which says it has it for "only"
$250. "Did I mention no monthly fee?" Yeah, but $250's still a bit steep for
me.
And whenever I hear the name of it on the ad I'm only reminded of a Billy bob Thornton movie,
mm hmm.

Slingbox

Slingbox does not provide content. What a Slingbox does is access your cable/satellite/Tivo/TV and funnels that picture (via a broadband connection) to your PC. You can change the channel just as you do at home. For people who travel a lot or who don't want to go through the hassle of an installation at a summer home this makes sense.

Don't forget Korea, most of the TV Stations in Korea are netcasting at ranges from 120k to well over 300k and all are either free or you need to use a bit of translation software to get in past a free registration process.

OK, that's different and useful. I thought the OP was referring to one of the many sites that charge people to download ad-laden WMP skins and pay for content that's already free.

But...is this idea spyware proof? I'd hate to visit a site like this and make good use of it, only to find that I'm allowing spyware to get into my PC.<P ID="signature">______________

I'm running Firefox on Linux, so I fear no spyware. Nothing tried to download itself while I was browsing that site. I also checked out several of the US links that interested me, like C-SPAN and some of the actual TV channels (OTA TV channels that were streaming) and none of those had any either.

Now that doesn't mean that every link off the site is safe (I did note that WBQP's site had been hacked by a "CyberLord" at the time, but it was not dangerous), but the site itself appears to be.
