Miss Cleo, TV psychic, dies at 53

Miss Cleo, the psychic who rose to fame in the ’90s with a series of television ads, died Tuesday at 53.

TMZ reports that the psychic, whose real name was Youree Dell Harris, had been diagnosed with colon cancer, which spread to her liver and lungs.

Harris, who was born in Los Angeles but sported a Jamaican accent in the commercials for the Psychic Readers Network, became a sensation and a punchline with her ads, in which she implored viewers, “Call me now!”

Harris’ run as a TV psychic was not without controversy. Access Resource Services, the company behind Psychic Readers Network, was hit with numerous lawsuits in 2001, and the following year the Federal Trade Commission charged the company’s owners with deceptive advertising, billing and collection practices, in a case that was eventually settled.

There was a Connecticut radio station that was LMA'd to a Jamaican gentleman and featured a format of Hip-Hop/R&B/Reggae music. He did the morning show and once said that Ms. Cleo "bought her Jamaican accent at K-MART."
