There's only a handful of people on the KIRO roster that I recognize from my earlier years. Deborah Horne, Monique Ming Laven, Nick Allard, Morgan Palmer, and Gary Horcher. Everyone else is gone! Deborah Horne was there when I was 16. I'm in my upper 50s now. I think she may now currently be the longest running local TV reporter in America (She's been with KIRO since the 1980s. Before then, I think she was in Baltimore. She's been on KIRO at least 40 years.) And still going strong.
I don’t know much about KIRO but I do know one of the people in management there in news. And, yeah he’s a problem. The GM will figure it out soon
Deborah started out in Providence. I got to see her start as a tv reporter there, while I was in college in the early 80s. She has definitely been a hard worker since day one.
She was excellent. KIRO hasn't renewed a weekend weatherperson in 20+ years, choosing instead to find a new person, for less $.

This was clearly a non-renewal of veteran talent. KNWN announced her hiring a few months ago. While Sinclair has done a better job of investing in their local news coverage at KOMO than some of the competition, the are not immune from the revenue shortfalls from advertising.
She had a pretty good career at KOMO considering she was hired as a morning news anchor and didn't last long. Usually a demotion to a reporter role would mean an exit at the contract end, but she stuck it out.

Deborah Horne walked into the KCPQ satellite truck by accident; I was the operator at the time and this is a re-staged photo of that. She thought that it was as funny as I did and was definitely game for taking this staged photo. She did it a second time later that night. All four Seattle affiliate satellite trucks were there and the KCPQ, KIRO and KOMO trucks looked virtually identical and were were all parked in a row. It wasn't just Seattle stations, satellite trucks from across the state were in Walla Walla at the Washington State Penitentiary for the execution of Cal Coburn Brown on September 10, 2010. Brown was the last person to be executed as capital punishment was abolished in 2018.
I had the opportunity to watch Deborah Horne from the very beginning of her TV career to the very end. I was a young college student in Providence way back in the day and there was this young, new reporter named Deborah Horne who joined WPRI in Providence. As a grad student in Boston, I continued to be able to see Deborah from time to time while she progressed to anchoring at WPRI.
In 1991, she appeared in my hometown of Seattle. I got to see her reporting and anchoring (weeknds?) at KIRO when I was visiting. Based on comments here and on Facebook, it's clear that she did an excellent job and was well regarded. By the way, ftvlive.com has a very good bio of Horne.
