TV Show Cancellation Thread (including ending ones)

‘Jane The Virgin, ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’, ‘iZombie’ To End After Upcoming Seasons

It’s official. The CW’s comedies Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will end after their upcoming fifth and fourth seasons, respectively. Additionally, the network revealed this season that the upcoming fifth season of comedic drama iZombie also will be its last, making for string of farewells on the CW next season. It will start with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which is on the fall schedule, and continue in midseason with Jane the Virgin and iZombie.

All of these have gone on way too long. No, actually, "Jane" is a very enjoyable show. I wouldn't want it to end. But the ratings have been pathetic. "Crazy Ex" was even worse, if such a thing was possible, but it wasn't nearly as much fun. "iZombie" has some funny scenes but it has been pretty depressing. Imagine destroying an entire U.S. city to eliminate zombies. That is a real threat.

'The Middle' is on ABC.
Not sure what you mean, but it was a decision by all parties involved.

Axl got married and had three kids. Sue got married and Axl was there with his pregnant wife. Brick was a successful author with a beard.

You'd think people would learn after what happened with "Will and Grace".

Update the Chew has now been cancelled and GMA will expand to 3 hours.

ABC News’ Good Morning America, will expand to three hours. The new third hour will air at 1 PM. EDT, noon CDT/PDT. The extra hour will replace ABC’s daytime food-themed program The Chew which, after seven seasons, 1454 episodes, multiple Emmy nominations and two Emmy Awards, will cease production at the end of this season but will continue to air as planned until September with all-new episodes airing in June.

GMA’s move resembles NBC News’ continuous expansion of Today, which now consists of 4 hours. I hear the rationale behind the decision is that GMA is cheaper to produce and draws higher multiple from advertisers. The move will not impact Live With Kelly & Ryan, which airs at 10 AM EDT.

“Over the past six years Good Morning America has solidified its place as America’s No. 1 morning show,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks, and president, Disney|ABC Television. “We believe there is great opportunity for viewers and advertisers in expanding to a third hour.”

“While this is the right decision for our business, it is also bittersweet,” Sherwood added. “For seven years ‘The Chew’ has delighted audiences by delivering innovative food segments in an entertaining atmosphere. We applaud and thank Gordon Elliott, Aimee Householder, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and the entire cast and crew for their great work and amazing run. And we wish them the very best.”

In telling his staff, executive producer and “The Chew” show creator Elliott saluted ABC’s move into a brand-new genre seven years ago. “Before ‘The Chew,’ no one had attempted a talk/food hybrid. Our hosts Clinton, Carla and Michael and the staff created television history executing the show as well as they did for all these years. I know I speak for all of the people who work on the show when I say it was the best television we have ever had the privilege to produce.”

Leading the competition season-to-date, Good Morning America has been the most-watched morning newscast in the country for six consecutive years and recently won back-to-back Emmy Awards for Outstanding Morning Program.

“Good Morning America keeps finding new ways to inform and delight our audience. We recently expanded GMA through our social channels and a newly launched website. Now we will build a whole new hour of compelling content that is true to GMA;s spirit,” said James Goldston, president of ABC News.

Additional details about the program, including the title and anchors, will be announced in the coming months.

And why not bringing back All My Children......too cheap for that? I think Susan Lucci's looking for a job... Of course this probably has to do (at least somewhat) from Mario Batali's sexual misconduct, and/or low ratings.

Bring back All My Children? It’s gone for a reason.

GMA in the afternoon may not markedly improve on The Chew (the trial a few years back was nothing spectacular), but it is a stronger connection to their most important brand in the daytime. If Mario’s misconduct led to lower numbers that cemented the decision to swing the axe, so be it, but a move like this was almost certainly percolating for some time. It’s possible it had no material impact.

They made the mistake when they fired Erinn Hayes. I was not about to miss Adam Sandler and Chris Rock, but I was still required to put up with Vanessa. I just can't stand her.

I really don't think they had much further to go with Erinn Hayes at the helm, but perhaps it would've been better to have kept her and still had him work with Leah. I liked both seasons but thought the 2nd season was better. Disappointed the show will be gone.

So is the third hour of GMA going to be in the morning or at the time The Chew is on? I figure that they're expanding it in the morning like Today has done. If it comes on in the afternoon it might as well not use the GMA name. And if it is in the morning, does that mean the afternoon time will be given back to local stations? This will put ABC in the same position as NBC with news and talk shows in the morning, and one soap in the afternoon.

I still would like to see the networks bring back more game shows but I know that probably won't happen.

it says in the article it will replace the chew

Last time out they called it Good Afternoon America. I suppose they could go that route, but I’m willing to give the public enough credit that they can handle use of the GMA name if they prefer that approach. A few folks will get their knickers in a knot over it airing in the afternoon, but those folks will have to deal with it.
