TV Show Cancellation Thread (including ending ones)

Roseann e Barr's New Show Cancelled After Racist Twitter Rant

I know there is already a show cancellation thread, there are so many posts there already I did not want this to get stuck at the end and missed. Plus, this is about more than just a show cancellation....

Damn Roseanne Barr has been accused of targeting one of President Obama's cabinet members in the rants and also Chelsea Clinton.

ABC’s cancellation announcement came hours after Barr announced she was “leaving” Twitter – again – after apologizing for calling former President Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett an offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

Barr later apologized, vowing to leave Twitter – then came back to Twitter about 5 minutes later, to expand on her apology.

“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans,” Barr tweeted. “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.” She has not tweeted anything since.

Jarrett has not responded, which CNN calls “taking the high road” but we call it a likely decision to hold off, having, in one of those incredible coincidences, previously been booked to appear tonight in an MSNBC town hall about racism in America – ratings on which are now likely to be much higher:

In her initial tweet about Jarrett she referred to her as “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” It was in response to a tweet referencing a Wikileaks claim that the CIA during Obama’s term in office spied on French presidential candidates.

In response to expected blow-back, Barr said her tweet was a “joke” and responded to claims that her tweet was racist by replying “Muslims r not a race.” Jarrett, an African American, was born in Iran to American parents. Barr’s tweet has since been deleted.

But this was only one of Barr’s offensive tweets this morning. Barr had kicked off her day tweeting that Chelsea Clinton is married to George Soros’ nephew…

Roseanne also noted, “By the way, George Soros is a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in German concentration camps & stole their wealth-were you aware of that? But, we all make mistakes, right Chelsea?”

Soros was born in 1930.

Damn this is straight up insane from Barr in the rants. Good Luck Joining infowars Roseanne!!

I hate to reply to my own thread, but I got to thinking, the network might consider retooling the show without Barr. It would be similar to what happened to Valerie Harper's series about 30 years ago when she left it. The program was retitled "Valerie's Family" or "The Hogan Family." In this case, the show would follow the Connor family after the untimely death of Roseanne. I believe the actors and actresses are strong enough to pull it off. Plus, I don't think the network or viewers want to see the rest of the cast penalized for something that is not their fault.

I doubt that we would see a retooled Roseanne anytime soon. Even Sara Gilbert has criticized her co-star about the tweets, so don’t count on that happening.

Here is a reaction to the rants. But Damn I read stuff that Roseanne supported the Green Party before supporting Trump though in some of the articles. I don't know if Roseanne really believes the tweets she says or was she saying that just to look good in front of Trump and supporters though.

She was also the Peace And Freedom Party's candidate for President in 2012, and got 66,000 votes. I believe that party leans to the left.

Valerie Harper isn’t Roseanne and this isn’t still the 1980s. The “keep it going without her” approach wouldn’t cut it, and ABC knows it. She sank her show entirely on her own.

Truly. Barr is a talented comedienne, but IMO, she has mental and emotional problems. I saw a TV interview with her years ago - my memory is that the interviewer was Diane Sawyer, so perhaps 20/20 (?) I recall that the interviewer (Sawyer, I think) treated everything Barr said as gospel truth, but some of it was kind of crazy, like her charges of child abuse (physical not sexual) against her father. The specifics of her story of abuse were suspicious and unbelievable - to me, anyway. One story was that her family was visiting Disneyland, and they were riding on those overhead gondola things, when her father grabbed each of his kids, and dangled them out over mid-air - thirty feet off the ground.

I remember thinking at the time that she either had a hidden agenda, or perhaps wasn't altogether mentally stable.

People can certainly change their political views - Arianna Huffington being a prominent example, but Barr seems to have moved from one extreme politically, to the other, with little or no rational thought.

That’s correct, and already Wanda Sykes and Whitney Cummings are evidence of this fallout by leaving the show entirely for different reasons, but sooner or later they’ll have something to say about why they left in the first place.

I agree the actors shouldn't be punished. And neither should we. After some time has passed, I can't see this being a big deal. Look at all the offensive things she has done over the years.

But if Roseanne dies, well, look what happened to "Kevin Can Wait". Okay, he was the lead, not Erinn, but it was bad enough.

At least Sandy Duncan was always adorable. I still remember how much I enjoyed her short-term memory problems in one episode.

Unfortunately, the other actors are collateral damage. John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, and Laurie Metcalf are doing just fine with their careers and hardly need Roseanne's coat-tails to get by. I do feel somewhat sorry for the others.

I said it in the other Roseanne thread, but it applies here as well. Roseanne is another example of where celebrities need to stop trying to being political commentators, regardless of what side it's on.

I’d suggest they need to not be horrible people. For crying out loud, we elected an entertainer who had no compunction about spouting off on politics to be president.

For half the country, that probably proves the point, but the larger idea is entertainers aren’t somehow less free to share their thoughts on political affairs than your barber, mail carrier, bartender or barista, but no one needs to be a blatant racist in doing so.

But I don't want to know those people's political thoughts either. I hate politics. I don't talk about them. They're stupid and cause too many fights. In addition especially after the 2016 Election Season I saw too many friendships end. - Can you imagine? Ending a friendship because you don't agree with who they voted for? Just like I don't care when there's a story on the news "Candidate X for this Political Office was endorsed by this person (celebrity or other politician)." I'm going to do my own research and then decide who I'm going to vote for.
