TV Show Cancellation Thread (including ending ones)

Yeah, Murphy Brown wasn't getting great ratings - especially against Station 19 and Thursday Night Football. Happy Together was just stupid and unfunny. Yet the Will & Grace reboot is going strong, and whenever I can catch it, it's still as funny as in 2000.

the Murphy Brown reboot was better off either on Netflix or on CBS All Access, cause there was no major demand for this reboot and CBS only brought it back due to the political nature of the current radicalized hyper-political times we are living in, and that and they thought if the Roseanne reboot worked for ABC, then the Murphy Brown reboot was good for them too. plus, if you wanted a show that gave off political views, you could see over-liberal late night TV or South Park or even Last Man Standing.

I personally don't get the re-boot phenomenon. I was a fan of the original Murphy Brown, but really had no desire to see the reboot. If I want my liberal views validated, I now prefer a venue like The Daily Show, or Colbert's monologue.

Along those same lines, I've heard that the Magnum PI re-boot is not exactly lighting the world on fire. Again, I don't get it. It's 30 years later, the new Magnum bears no resemblance to Tom Selleck, Higgins is now a woman. What's the point?

On the other hand, it worked for Hawaii 5-0 - Alex O'Loughlin bears no resemblance to Jack Lord, so....

I ran out of breath reading that sentence.

Murphy Brown and Happy Together to End After Initial Orders on CBS

A day after doubling down on unscripted fare come January, the network is firming up its comedy slate for 2019, with its Murphy Brown reboot and Damon Wayans Jr. vehicle Happy Together both ending their respective runs after their initial 13-episode orders.
Really? "Murphy Brown" was good!

"Happy Together", on the other hand, wasn't worth seeing. I have every episode recorded and one of these days I might actually watch them. I actually found myself enjoying "Downward Dog" after waiting.

All Access has cancelled "One Dollar"

The mystery-thriller starring Philip Ettinger is the first scripted series to be canceled at the streaming service.
CBS All Access has its first cancellation.

The streaming service, which launched in 2014, has axed the scripted drama One Dollar after one season.

"While One Dollar won’t be coming back for another season, we're incredibly proud of its artistically presented 10-episode story, which will continue to be available for streaming on the service and for future audiences to discover," Julie McNamara, executive vp originals at CBS All Access, said Wednesday in a statement. "We thank the tremendous creative team, Craig Zobel, Matt DeRoss, Alexandre Dauman, Graham Gordy and Jason Mosberg, and the wonderful cast for their hard work and dedication to this series, as well as our viewers for following One Dollar's journey."

Fox Cancels Love Connection

Fox has axed its reboot of the unscripted series “Love Connection” after two seasons.

Series host Andy Cohen made the announcement during an interview on “The Howard Stern Show” Wednesday morning.

“Love Connection” aired in the summer on Fox, where it was paired with fellow unscripted series “Beat Shazam,” which is hosted by Jamie Foxx. The series was never a ratings breakout, with the second season averaging a 0.5 rating and 1.6 million viewers in Live+Same Day viewing.

Warner Horizon and Telepictures Productions were behind “Love Connection” with Mike Fleiss, Martin Hilton, James Breen, and Jason Ehrlich serving as executive producers. Cohen served as co-executive producer in addition to hosting.

I never really got into the revived Love Connection. Beat Shazam is one of my favorite game shows, on the other hand. So easy to play along at home. They got over 2 million viewers a week last season, they finished filming season 3 last month, and if things keep going the way they are, they will probably make it to a season 4, too. The show has much more of a 'play-along' level with the app, the chance at a million, and the overall objective than L-C anyways.

I liked Love Connection was a pretty good show when it wasn't renewed for season 3 last summer and Jan when SYTYCD was renewed thought that Love Connection was canceled.

An Update Showtime has ended SMILF due to the Misconduct allegations involving Frankie Shaw.

Shaw's overall deal with ABC Studios has been suspended without pay while the Disney-owned company reviews its options.
Showtime is getting out of the SMILF business.

Amid producer ABC Studios' investigation into the SMILF creator and star Frankie Shaw's alleged on-set misconduct, Showtime has opted to not renew the Golden Globe-nominated comedy for a third season.

"After weighing a variety of factors, Showtime has decided that SMILF will not move forward for a third season. The remainder of the second season will continue to air as scheduled on Showtime through its series finale on March 31. We remain extremely proud of the two seasons of SMILF, and thank Frankie Shaw for her singular voice and unique creation, as well as the dozens of writers, producers, actors, directors and crew members both in Los Angeles and on location in Boston, who contributed to this exceptional series," Showtime said in a statement.

ABC Studios, which produced SMILF and had star and creator Shaw under an overall deal, has suspended that pact. "Frankie Shaw’s overall deal with ABC Studios has been suspended without pay while we review our options," an ABC Studios spokesperson said in a statement.

"I can’t express how much I’ve loved making this show, how much I love the cast and crew and appreciate Showtime and ABC as creative partners," Shaw said in a statement late Friday.
