TV Star Richard Chamberlain

TV actor Richard Chamberlain has died at age 90. He played Dr. Kildare and starred in several mini-series:

Chamberlain was excellent in the mini series SHOGUN.
He also played Aramis in the THREE MUSKETEERS. That film also featured Oliver Reed and Michael York. There was a lawsuit about that film because the studio deceived the actors. They released the second part as a separate film FOUR MUSKETEERS, but didn't tell many of the cast. This led to the "Salkind Clause", that said actors have to be informed and paid accordingly on projects that may be released as a separate film.

Chamberlain always added flair and wit to the projects he worked on. RIP...

Halfway through the Hollywood Reporter story, Dr. Kildare turns into Dr. Kildaire and remains that way to the end. The former is the correct spelling.

Was AI the reason for the error? Fact checking and proofreading don't seem to matter anymore.

Chamberlain also had a small role in the TOWERING INFERNO. One of the many epic disaster films of the 70's...

Could be, but my guess is that the story was pieced together using material from at least one other article or reference source, and that one of those had "Kildare" misspelled.

Great actor and a great man overall. No doubt the King of the Miniseries. The Thorn Birds needs no explanation. Somewhere on VHS I have the Dream West miniseries that he also did in the '80s, about the Oregon Trail.
RIP to a legend. Say hi to Barbara Stanwyck and Jean Simmons while you're up there.

Chamberlain's Kildare was so popular in Latin America that when I was in Guatemala in 1963, young teen girls on the street would ask me for autographs. I had a slight resemblance to the actor, and nobody could explain what Chamberlain might have been in Guatemala City, but that was evidence of how popular he was!

Of course, after that I followed his career. A marvelous and full one!

It was interesting how two networks had two doctor programs on the air in the same Era. Some may remember Ben Casey. There was a huge contrast between the characters, however. Dr. Kildare cane across like a nice guy but Ben Casey was very often coming across as the exact opposite. The guy who layed Ben Casey, I forgot his name, was in a TV movie several years after BC ended where he played a professional man ravaged by alcoholism. He did an EXCELENT job in that role.
