TV Station Trivia... :)

Here in Tampa, there were lots of shows that premiered to celebrate the 12/12/94 affiliation switch that made WTVT from CBS to FOX, WFTS from FOX to ABC, and WTSP from ABC to CBS.

For WFTS, new episodes of ABC shows premiered the next day after the "switch" to celebrate the new ABC affiliate (WFTS), called 28 Tampa Bay, or 28 Tampa Bay News, like Full House, which premiered the next day with "Arrest Ye Merry Gentlemen". BTW, this is my little sister's fave show. Why? Well, she watches Full House on Nick@Nite, so it makes sense, but it's cable. From that day until the show ended, WFTS had 14 episodes of the show during it's run (all on it's last season), while WTSP had the rest at 178 episodes, so 10 overrules 28 with # of Full House episodes!

Here in Hartford/New Haven, the last network swap (of sorts) was UPN and WB in 1999-2000. A "Big 3" swap happened in Boston in 1995 (CBS and NBC) and soon after in Providence/New Bedford (CBS and ABC).

When our Big Swap in Atlanta occurred on 12/12/94, the only thing being touted was WAGA launching a 10 PM newscast at becoming a Fox affiliate, noting that it was an hour earlier than WSB's or WXIA's. Channel 46 (then WGNX, now WGCL) mainly ran promos before the switch about becoming the new CBS affiliate. The last big switch was in 1980, when WSB switched from NBC to ABC and WXIA from ABC to NBC. The changes were noted on-air nationally on Monday Night Football and The Tonight Show respectively. WAGA seized the opportunity with promos saying "your favorite CBS shows aren't moving."
