TV Transmitter work on Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington, CT

It's being reported at avsforum.com that transmitter work has just started at Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington. It's work that's affecting WTIC-TV/DT, WTXX-TV/DT and even WEDH-TV. Their analog transmitter is going to be there for the first time fairly soon. More at the link here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=8645583&&#post8645583

Just did a quick antenna scan...analog channel 61 looks to be about the same. No trace of WTXX-DT channel 12 whatsoever. Am I to assume it's off the air due to the work?

So WTXX-DT isn't broadcast from Waterbury/Prospect? That's probably why I can still pick up WTXX-TV, but not the DT version.

I think that's a pretty rotten deal seeing that people in the south end of Waterbury, the original city of license, cannot pick up the digital station because now it's 25 miles away, down the other side of the ridge.

It has to be that Tribune wants it's two Connecticut stations to be on the same tower, but what happens if/when they lose one of them. It's been speculated for years now that Tribune may get rid of one or both stations. I think there was already a motion filed in court against Tribune because it owns not only two stations, but also the Hartford Courant. Word is that Tribune may have to give up one of the stations during the next couple years.

So much for being a "Waterbury" station. But I guess that really hasn't mattered since they lost the NBC affiliation in the 80s. Now, they move their tower out of, and a good distance away from, the city of license. Oh well, just another sign of media consolidation.

WTXX-DT comes from Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington on channel 12. They can't up the power on it yet because of channel 12 in Providence, RI (CBS).

Kevin-Is there any chance you could do a scan up on Rattlesnake to see what kind of reception one can get from the NYC channels? Just curious..thnx -J

Do you mean have me go up there with an antenna? I live in New Britain about 5 miles from the tower in question.

I remember traveling on Route 6 one time, going up the hill in Farmington and getting the station that's now known as CBS TV 3 WSHM/67 from Springfield. The station was W67 something and was a TBN repeater.

What were you using to receive it and HOW did you get anything from that distance?

Hi Kevin-if you can get access and get a spot of time. Would be interesting to see what kind of TV reception one can pick up to the west.

A teacher at Berlin High once estimated that the old station on 97.9 (I was there in 1987-88) was receivable to about the U-Conn medical center in Farmington.

Getting back to Rattlesnake Mountain, are there any other FMs there besides WRCH-FM 100.5 New Britain/Hartford? Yes, I'm aware of West Peak and Avon Mountain. Lastly, does WLAT-AM 910 New Britain still transmit from Radio Park in Farmington?
