TV: When will Mobile get MyNetworkTV ?

The thread about NBC 13 and Retro Television Network got me to thinking: When will Mobile get a true MyNetworkTV affiliate? I'd have thought that WEAR-TV 3 would've simulcast WFGX 35 (the closest MNTV affil) on one of its digital subchannels, but perhaps it isn't as simple as that.

Just a guess but I believe Mobile will get MyNetwork TV when MyNetwork TV gets WWF Smackdown. I think that will be enough for people to beg Sincliar to bring it to Mobile and Baldwin county cable by way of a simulcast on WEAR HD-2.

I'm glad WJTC chose to become independent again instead of joining a network built on shows originally created for first-run syndication. I really don't see MyNetworkTV lasting very long, so it was not worth the risk for WJTC.

Based on what I know about MyNetworkTV and WFGX, viewers in Mobile are not very much and the demand for "Smackdown" might not be so great after its run ends on the CW Television Network. "Raw" on the USA Network should be enough for even the biggest of professional wrestling fanatics.

I would like to see "The Daily Buzz" return to viewers on the Alabama side of the market. Maybe through WJTC or WBPG again?

I just thought about something. Sinclair tried to get WFGX's tower moved from Fort Walton to the Baldwin County antenna farm, but the FCC denied it. Paxon has a full power construction permit for channel 18 or 19 in Mobile that I believe is for sale. Paxson's new Mobile station should be able to go up on a tower in Baldwin county. Might Sinclair buy Paxson's CP, move MyNet there, and sell off channel 35 to a religious or home shopping group? Does Sinclair have cash on hand to buy new stations?

I had known about Paxson's CP for DT-18 and have wondered if it would ever get built.

As it stands, they could 'do what they do' and clear Ion programming (zzzz), or they could go with both Ion AND MNTV. I think Paxson actually owns a station that does both--in Memphis, IIRC.

I just checked fcc.gov and it appears the sale of channel 18 has already happened. No more mention of Paxon in the FCC files. The new owners are TELEVISION CAPITAL CORPORATION OF MOBILE. This group appears to be buying unbuilt digital construction permits and have acquired several, including one in Gainesville, FL. Since they don't seem to have a single station on the air, I assume they are speculators.

Coming soon, Mobile/Pensacola/Fort Walton's 15th full power TV station... maybe...

Seems like we have enough to loan a couple stations to Biloxi.

More free TV can't hurt...can it?

The station here in Memphis is basically a MNTV affiliate... The do have IONlife on a sub channel. They also show Qubo at times and have Qubo on a sub channel full time. I do not recall seeing the ION logo on CH 50 since it became MNTV. The station was originally operated by LMA but has now been sold to ION. The station is full of infomercials like any other PAX or ION station.

Why would Mobile want MNTV? MNTV is crap.

Maybe the chance to judge for themselves? ::)
