'TWAS THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

'Twas the day after Christmas and all through the dial,
Not a carol was playing, to make us all smile.
With rock, AC, country, oldies, and rap,
Every station was playing its usual crap.
We're still visiting family and friends to spread cheer,
But the radio folk all deserve a huge jeer.
For the PDs all think Christmas starts in November,
And ends 12:01 the 26th of December.
So if Christmas is still part of your celebration,
Turn your radios off all across this great nation.
Time for records, CDs, and tapes, I believe,
To give us all a much-needed reprieve,
From a premature onset of the post-holiday blahs,
That is caused by the PDs who all live in Oz.
Phase the Christmas tunes out,
Don't just cut them off cold.
Out in radio land,
Is this idea too bold?
Give us tunes for this holiday that we all hold so dear,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good year!

Wow! Great! Ain't got no Oz here!

In past years, when the weekend fell right after Christmas day, Sunny mixed in a few Christmas songs the next few days, and even played a whole evening of Christmas music the next day for weekend Christmas parties. Since the 26th is a Monday and workday for some there may not be Christmas music on Sunny this year. WNPV also continued their Christmas music when the 26th was a Sunday. WKDN & WBYN usually play some carols up to the 31st. Also interesting is that most tv networks drop Christmas programming by the 25th, when families are gathered and might watch. The stores also tear down the decorations early on the 26th. The reality is most people are done with Christmas music and shows by the 26th. I use the week after to catch up on the Christmas CD's and videos I didn't catch before the 25th, especially ith Sunnay available all month before.

Re: Sunny's still playing them

At midnight, John Tesh said "...and more holiday favorites now!" right into a Christmas tune. They're still playing them as of 12:15. B101 stopped cold (even though their Web site proudly proclaims that they're playing Christmas songs right now!) and WBJR, interestingly enough, dropped completely off the air when Nat King Cole finished up "The Christmas Song" at midnight!

Re: Retraction from the Original Poster??

Yes, Sunny is still all Christmas through December 26th. Where is the retraction from the person who posted this cynical poem "'Twas The Day After Christmas"? Maybe he's too busy picketing Wal-Mart because the clerk is back to mumbling "No Problem...Have a Good One" today and insulting the poster's heritage by not saying "Happy Boxing Day!". (lol)

I was taping Christmas music and expecting to have to stop mid-tape when Sunny would probably play "Here Comes The Sun" at midnight, but much to my surprise it continued and was on in the am...I missed the announcements that it would continue today. It makes sense since I know people who are having dinner with the in-laws the day after since their workplaces are closed.

I was also taping WJBR on another radio and thought something happened with the radio when it went dead, but then thought to try another channel and discovered it was the station. How long were they off the air?
Edited by wperdr on 12/26/05 11:45 PM.
