It's interesting that NBC would buy The Weather Channel, even though it has Weather Plus. I knew TWC was a top 5 cable network, but I had no idea it was worth that much.
They are "buying their competition. That's why. They will then own the entire weater franchise. Turner did that to other news channels when competitrors arose for cnn, too.
If NBC buys The Weather Channel, look for TWC's programming to REALLY go in the toilet then. NBC will simply bring it down in the gutter with the rest of the stuff it has on the air sorta what CBS did with The Nashville Network....going so far as to change TNN's name. I'll be using weather.gov more often.
