Twins baseball broadcaster Herb Carneal DIES at 83

Very sad news, especially the timing... right before opening day. A great life and a great career. My condolences to the Twins and the Twins fans. :'(

And just as the Twins are beginning a new era in their radio coverage, going from WCCO to KSTP.

grew up listening to Herbie as a kid in minneapolis, Hrbek said it best on the fan when he said Carneals voice means schools almost out and summer vacation is right around the corner. Herb was in pretty bad health the last few years, lost his longtime wife awhile back, and his voice on any station other than WCCO would have been just wrong. Rest in peace Mr Carneal, give Puck our best

More sad news of a more obscure nature. Brian Giffin, who was hired as the Twins Engineer prior to last season, had left the team early in 2007 to be with his wife while she battled breast cancer. Recently, she has taken a turn for the worse, and Giffin has had to put his career on hold. If any of you know Brian, he is a true pro and a multifaceted talent. My best wishes go to him and his wife during very difficult times. Many of you who enjoyed the Twins new radio broadcasts last year have Giffin to thank for playing an instrumental role in assembling the new broadcasts, among others. My deepest sympathies and wishes to a good friend, a true pro, and an even better person.

What a career. What a talent. My uncle knew him for years and said he was just a great off the air as on.

God Speed, Herb.

As a rabid Twins fan, I grew up (and my dad grew up) listening to Herbie. My sincere condolences to The Twins and to Herb's family. Does anyone know if there was any particular cause Herb was attached to? Instead of flowers, I'd like to make a donation in his name.

HE WILL BE MISSED. GOD BLESS YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU BROUGHT TO BASEBALL HERB.

I missed this thread when it was new. Oh, the nights I fell asleep as a boy listening to the games on the radio.....

As a boy, my grandad and my dad took me to the see the Twins every season. Herb transcended the generations...
