Two Antenna Questions

1. What happens when one of the lights in a tower burns out. How do they replace it? Because I have noticed lately while driving at night through downtown that the KLTN antenna is missing one light.Now I also see that this light is very importan because it is below the top one and the top one is the light that flashes. So everytime the top one flashes, you see like 70 meters of darkness. Does someone climb up there or do they use crane systems? Also, How much time do they have to replace these lights? Is it Months, weeks, days?

2. Now is Liberman recently working on their antennas, because I keep hearing KJOJ with a lot of drops and I usually get to pick this station up with my seek button in South Houston. Thay are also going on and off the air a lot. Are they running in low power or are the making maintainance to their Xmitter? And before this happened to KJOJ, I also saw KIOX being off the air every now but never at reduced power which led me to believe that they were making maintainace. But KIOX never ran at low power and was never spotty like KJOJ. Did the KJOJ tower get struck by lightning?

Riggers climb a tower to change lamps. The beacons that flash are mostly LED now, and increasingly the side lights are.

Liberman runs a cheap operation, They just may not have the backup or auxiliary equipment.

LEDs are more costly than lamps.....and more beacons are STROBES burning longer to simulate a lamp...not LEDs (at least on new towers)...older towers still run lamps and to retrofit to strobes, it aint cheap. The SIDE lamps are slowly changing to LED as they are close to the same price as the lamps.

Yes, Liberman IS cheap and has NO aux sites/backups.....103.3 has one Continental 816R at the site. KIOX never ran at lower power because they werent owned by Liberman until 4 years ago

I think the last time I was at port O connor about 2 weeks ago.... looks like they fixed the top light on KMAT They sound good now after the problem was fixed earler,,, pretty quick, I didnt see the tower real good, but it seemed like they did. I cant believe its been 4 years since X97 has gone and KXGJ, man does time fly!!
