Two Fox Sports Affiliates in Greenville?

Looking at the Greenville Radio Market, it seems iHeart owns 1440 WGVL which programs the Fox Sports line up. (iHeart has an interest in Fox Sports Radio.) But a locally-owned FM station, 94.3 WRHD Farmville, also airs the Fox Sports line up nights and weekends. With all the 24/7 Sports networks available, looking for affiliates, this seems odd. ESPN is heard on a couple of AM stations in the market, co-owned 910 in Spartenburg and 1330 in Greenville. But I don't think there are outlets for CBS, NBC or Yahoo Sports.

So why two Fox affiliates?
 
Just a quick correction. ESPN Upstate is on 950 AM in Spartanburg, along with 97.1 FM. And, it's on 1330 AM and 105.9 FM in Greenville. The station is doing well after just over a year in existence, beating the long time sports station in Clemson in the most recent book. It was enough to send the afternoon host on WCCP in to a 45 minute on air tirade, questioning the all too real ratings.
 
Yeah, I heard that tirade myself. I listen to a lot of sports talk radio here. I can tell you from a listener's perspective the product on WCCP has changed drastically in the past 2-3 yrs. It's very evident that the main goal of the station is to promote Clemson and to denigrate any of their recruiting rivals. (i.e Georgia, USC, FSU) It doesn't suprise me that they would be beaten so soundly in the ratings being that, IMO the most listeners would prefer an unbiased approach to reporting. ESPN Upstate due to their affiliation, also provides a wider variety of coverage other than just college football.
 
Interesting you mention 97.1-FM. Because back in the 80's and 90's, you could get an Atlanta station in Greenville on that frequency. Back then it was an oldies station called Fox, and was licensed to Gainesville, Ga. Today it is sort of an oldies rock format, called The River. You can pick it up in Anderson, but can no longer be heard in Greenville. Not sure when the Spartanburg signal emerged on 97.1, but I guess I wasn't here at the time to complain about it. That Atlanta signal used to be very clear in Greenville, but here again, distant reception has not been protected.
