Two Jobs with East Texas Broadcasting

We have a couple of spots we need to fill at East Texas Broadcasting in our Mt. Pleasant studios...and since I see a lot of good people out of work out there, I thought I'd throw this out on the board and give y'all the heads-up.
(BTW...I am not the guy to contact about getting the gig. The boss asked me to post a message to my radio/computer group friends on FB & I thought I'd add it this forum as well.)

Both openings are due to guys who are moving upward and onward...and we all wish them the best. No kidding!
(Good Luck in Chicago Brother J!)

We have a need for a morning host on our Greatest Hits station, KALK-FM 97.7.
This is a fun station and a great audience filled with loyal listeners.
If you grew up in the 60's or 70's, this is the music you've heard all your life.
I spent my first 6 months with ETB at this station before moving to our Classic Rock station in Paris.

If you have a little sports play-by-play action in your bag of tricks, that would be a big plus for either position.

Secondly, we need a web-head who can handle our website, on-line content, etc...Link goes to recent job listing on TAB website
http://www.tab.org/job-bank/find-job/webmaster-online-content-manager

If you have any questions, I'll answer what I can in this open forum...but if you'd like to apply for either position or you have specific questions concerning salary, insurance, etc...I encourage you to contact Susie Lamb [email protected]

Interesting a live local morning show...not a satellite feed. What a novel concept hats off to the idea! LOL. I thought there were still some good broadcasters out there that wanted to do radio for the community, now we know of one!

Word is that they are extreamly hard to work for and the constant revolving door seems to bare that out. What's your take on it?

In my experience, ETB is no more difficult to work for than any other outfit.

If you join the on-air staff, you'll have the same arguments and frustrations you'd have in any market....
* sales people handing spots in late (But they NEED it today!)...
* commercial copy that seems to have been written by a 3 yr old...(what the...? Who wrote this???)
* stale coffee (I make my own and bring it to work...I ain't drinkin' crappy coffee!!)
* weekly staff meetings and the occassional loooooong day.

But...in a lot of ways, it's better.
* the "big boss" is just down the hall and his door is almost always open (you got a good reason, he'll listen)
* a solid support staff who "plays well with others" (sales support, traffic & HR)
* a fair number of paid remotes each month (a little extra jingle in your pocket)
* sales staff & promotions really work to get you lots off goodies for on-air contests (concert/event tix, dinners, prizes)
* a beautiful area to live in with large cities in fairly close proximity (Dallas is 1.5 hour drive...Tyler, Texarkana & Shreveport about 1 hr)

As for the revolving door...the job can be yours for as long as you want it and for as long as you're willing to do the job right.
Out of all of the air-staff...I've been with ETB for over two years and there are three other morning hosts who have been with the company almost as long. Another has been with ETB for at least a dozen years, and I believe two of our news directors have been there even longer.
We have had a few who have come and gone quickly...that happens from time to time in this business.
Sometimes that combination of format, ego, attitude & reality turn out to be a bad mix.

All that aside...for me...overall...I'm happy with where I am and who I work for.
'Nuff said.

And yes...I post under my real name. I ain't got nothin' to hide.

Hey, I know some 3 year old kids that are smarter than some adults I've worked with. By they way, it seems KBUS is still rockin' the airwaves like it did when I lived in the Paris area 15 years ago. I passed through NE Texas last month and enjoyed hearing the station again. Keep up the good work!

Nice thoughts Daniel,

Isn't the sales / programming war everywhere?

Thanks for being gutsy to post under your real name.
