Two killed in KTRK helicopter crash

KTRK ABC13 in Houston confirms its news helicopter crashed in a wooded area between The Woodlands and Conroe in Montgomery County just after 11am today, killing the pilot and a KTRK news photographer.

The chopper was going to the scene of a shooting in Montgomery County when it went down. Live video from another news chopper -- KRIV Fox 26 -- showed the KTRK chopper on the ground in thick woods, broken apart and burning. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department reports there were no survivors.

Names have not been released.

I am so sad to hear about this. I am from Phoenix where we obviously had that tragedy last summer and personally knowing several of the pilots here in Phoenix it is so sad to hear about this crash today in Texas. My hearts and prayers go out to the two on the helicopter

My heart goes to the ABC 13 family and to these two folks relatives. As I work closely with this station in my job, I have talked to many of the news/support staff countless times. They have been through alot this year and will persevere...

I'm receiving word that Dave Garrett & Pilot John Downhower were the two fatalities.

Today was a sad day in Houston Television. My prayers go out to the families of Dave and John as they deal with this terrible loss. They were the best in the business of covering the air from the air.
