Two Knocks on Sirius

I have to gripes about Sirius. First off, let me predicate my whining by saying I'm over all happy with Sirius and have added 3 additional radios to my plan for both my sisters and my pain in the ass girlfriend. Here are my two knocks:

1) Being an aging metal head, I listen mostly to Hair Nation 23 and Hard Attack 27, and on both stations the DJs constantly talk over the music. The worst example was one time the guy started talking when Metallica's "Fight Fire with Fire" started playing. From the start of the song to when the vocals begins is about 90 seconds and the guy talked the whole time. They all do it. Im also going to email Sirius about it and complain. The programing is great; I'm happy about 60-70% of the time, as opposed to FM when 10% would be a good day. But this talking over the music crap has got to end or be "Siriusly" assuaged.

2) Buzzsaw 19 (hard classic rock) plays way to much of the same tired songs you hear over and over on FM. Sure, you'll hear a Ronnie James Dio era Black Sabbath song (RJD the best Sabbath vocalist) and Montrose and some other tunes FM never plays, but overall to much of the same FM classic rock songs (you know the songs I'm talking about). The only good thing about Buzzsaw is the one DJ, Rocker Robin, doesn't talk over the music like I spoke of above. I know the Vault 16 plays "deeper" songs that FM doesn't, but the songs on there are mostly laid back "classic rock" like "Seagulls" by Bad Company.

Hair Nation 23 and Hard Attack 27, program wise, are worth the money I pay alone, and the sports, comedy stations, etc. are an added plus. But the talking over the music and Buzzsaw 19 playing to much tired songs are two negatives for me...

The talking over the music is "hitting the post", a common thing in radio. I think it helps cut back on some piracy, as well as makes it sound pro, like a true station. I am not saying it is right, just is the way it is it seems.

Definitely share your gripes with Sirius. It's the only way they're going to know about your discontent.

And as an old PD friend says, "the only people who like it when jocks hit the post are other jocks."<P ID="signature">______________

DJ is inexcusable

People have had the same complaint since Sirius' inception. I think it is inexcusable. Please write to Sirius and demand that the DJs respect the music.

Thanks.

> Actually it wasnt since inception. I have had Sirius since April 2002, and there was actually a more laid back approach to the jock's presentation. Then, early in 2003 Sirius told their jocks to open it up some, to sound more like terrestrial radio and give the "canned" feel a new lift. I know this for fact because of some PD and jocks who work at Sirius told me about the new polocy back then. I too would at least like them not to "talk over" the songs intros and endings. <P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by AZJoe on 12/04/05 08:39 PM.</FONT></P>

UPDATE: Two Knocks on Sirius

I emailed Sirius about the talking over the music ("hitting the post"), and this is the e-mail I got back from their customer care . Seems like a rubber-stamp response to something they've heard from subscribers before. It is something I hope they truly address 'cause DJ yapping is something I hoped to get away from when I got Sirius...

Thanks, we got your email! We appreciate the time your have taken to
contact us regarding our on-air personalities discussions interrupting
the music on Hair Nation // 23 and Hard Attack // 27. Here at SIRIUS,
the music and entertainment you want is our primary concern. Our music
programmers and on-air personalities are true experts in their
respective fields. They often compliment the music with compelling
information about the song being played. They also understand that
sometimes it is best to just let the music speak for itself.

We hate to hear that these discussions are infringe upon the music they
are meant to represent. We certainly understand your frustration. At
SIRIUS, we understand that you know who you are and what you want - we
constantly strive to be the service that brings it to you! Please rest
assured that your comments have been forwarded to our programming team
