Two More Alabama AM's axed at the chopping block

It's also showing WBYE AM Calera, WYVC FM Camden, WVFG FM Uniontown, and WBFZ FM Selma as being deleted too.... (Pages 7 and 8 of report)

Am I reading this wrong?

-Travis

WHOA!

STOP THE PRESSES!

DID I READ THAT INFO CORRECT?

IF SO, THEN GOOD RIDDANCE TO DR. CRAIG AND SENATOR HANK SANDERS.

WHAT A JOKE THOSE TWO CHARACTERS ARE.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. IF YOUR INFO IS RIGHT MR. TALLRED, THEN I'M GLAD TO SEE WBYE DELETED AS WELL. THAT RADIO STATION WAS JUST A WASTE OF SPACE IN CALERA. HATE TO SEE WVFG IN UNIONTOWN GO BUT THEY'RE GUILTY OF VIOLATING THE RULES THEN I SAY GOOD RIDDANCE TO THEM AS WELL.

Meant to put IF in the WVFG part of the P.S.  Please forgive me for making that mistake.

Seriously though, it's about time the FCC cracked down on all these lawbreakers and let them know that no one is above law.

This includes the folks at WYVC/WCOX and WBFZ/WVFG.

Thanks for sharing this info with us Mr. Tallred.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Hope the FCC will crack down on WQLS 90.5 FM Camden as well.  I've already caught them in many violations of the rules too.

I haven't read all the cancellation letters regarding each of the stations mentioned, but in WBYE's case, there was no application filed to renew the license which expired on April 1. It seems to me the cancellation of the license was more of a procedural move by the FCC than anything else. Looking at WBYE's FCC record, their license was cancelled back in 2004 also (and obviously reinstated). I wouldn't write the station off just yet.

The same thing happened with WBFZ here in Selma.

For all the juicy details visit: http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=33024

If that link is correct, then WBFZ must cease from broadcasting.

Will check now to see if that's the case.

P.S. An update: WBFZ is now a pirate radio station.  They're still on, as of this post.  May the FCC put them out of business for good.  Bye Bye Mr. Sanders and company.  It was nice not knowing you.

B.T.W. One other update to report, all those stations listed lost their right to broadcast for the same reason WBFZ and WBYE lost theirs. When you don't renew your license gentlemen and/or owner(s), you lose in the long run. Glad that these people are being caught and receiving their fair and just punishment for their actions.

It looks like I'll have a happy 40th birthday after all.

My return to radio may soon be happening.

Stay tuned for the details.

And yes Radio-Locator just updated their site.

All those deleted stations are no where to be found.

They've been removed.

So the FCC says these stations must cease broadcasting, but we all know the ones still on the air will continue to broadcast until they find a way to get their license reinstated.

Does the FCC just kindly look the other way at the ongoing violation, or is there some grey area that allows them to stay on, pending renewal?

My suspicion (and this is only a guess) is that they've spoken with staff and have some kind of emergency STA to remain in operation while they sort out their renewal.

As of this post:

WBFZ
WYVC
WVFG

Are still on the air.

Don't know about those other three, since I'm unable to get them.

WBYE is still on the air here in Calera. I checked the station's record on the FCC site to see if there were some sort of STA to keep broadcasting despite the order, but I couldn't locate one. It may have been filed and the website hasn't been updated, though.

Doesn't WBYE still have live jocks from time to time.... I could've swore I heard someone on there the other day when I was driving through?

Travis: I believe that should be 1230 WNUZ Talledega, not WNZZ which is AM950 here in Montgomery. I worked at WNUZ in the summer of 1970 for a few weeks while someone was out sick. It was sister station to WRFS, 1050 AM in Alexander City back then (where I was employed.)

The WNUZ calls are now are being used in the Mercersburg Pennsylvania area.

For more details on this new discovery visit this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WNUZ

The deleted Talladega station went by the calls of WPPT and has been silent for a while now.

That's what I've discovered while doing research on it.

yes, WBYE has live jocks during different dayparts. During the latenight hours, the station's programming runs on autopilot.

Now for some breaking news!

Mr. Hank Sanders and company have decided to turn off WBFZ, till further notice.

It looks like this station may soon be gone for good.

I hope that's the case.

Assuming 105.3 really goes away, would that "allocation" be sold in the next FCC auction? If I read the FCC site correctly, DWBFZ was (is) 50 KW at 150 meters directional. Still a lot better power and population wise than most of the last auction offerings.

It's a pretty good signal, yes… but look at the coverage map and see if you see any place that has dollar signs floating around. Selma? Camden? Marion? Autaugaville? It's mostly cows, trees and poor people.

True. But if you have over 50K population in your coverage you should be able to find some kind of programming to at least keep it going. I wonder if somewhere in the FCC database is the population of the 60 coverage.
