Two more LPFMs for Houston metro

Both the City of Tomball and the Lion of the Tribe of Judah Ministries in Spring have been granted new LPFMs. Since both will be on 95.1, there will be some sort of time sharing arrangement as the two transmitters are about 13 miles apart. The Spring station will run 100 watts from a 30 meter tower, and Tomball will run 36 watts from a 48 meter tower.

Both stations will probably catch some grief from K236AR (KBRZ translator) which has a pretty good signal into parts of north and northwest Harris County.

Still quite a bit of jockeying going on with Houston area LPFM applications. Several mutually exclusive applications may wind up as timeshares, while some previously dismissed singleton applications have been resubmitted.

Both of these will get killed by the 95.1 antenna on the Mo City sticks running 99watts 1800ft high antenna FCC should have never allowed these two LPFM on the same frequency they should have allowed for another more open frequencies

This is the best open frequencies in H Town one should have been put on this one 101.5 these frequencies are the next best ones

92.5 97.3 99.6 106.1

99-6?

The other frequencies you mentioned would receive interference as well, dj. 92-5 sees KCOL from Groves most days, 97-3 would be sandwiched in between Country Legends and ESPN, getting hit from both adjacent channels, and 106-1 would be hammered by KIOC on a daily basis. It's really gotten difficult to find an open frequency around here that won't get stepped on by someone.

As for the topic, there WILL be grief caused by K236AR for these two, as mentioned. I live just west of Spring and KBRZ's translator puts a serviceable signal this far north, with little to no problems. It actually covered up my reception of KYKR, which like KIOC was a daily visitor to Harris County prior to the translator's move to Mo. City. The best frequency I can find here, with the least interference is 101.5. This is the frequency I use for my portable transmitter in the car. Austin's 101x hasn't caused any grief to date for me, since I began using it.

101.5 has been issued a LPFM in NW Houston/Cypress area. Whether it will get on the air remains to be seen...no tower or studio site and a petition to revoke the CP has been filed......there are other MXed apps around town that probably have requested 101.5 so stay tuned...

Assume you are talking about KOER, Rhema Gospel Radio?

One thing to keep in mind: Many of these LPFM grants will never make it on the air for a variety of reasons; poor planning and lack of money being the main culprits. All kinds of cancelled/expired CPs from the last LPFM window.

The application process for the MX's appears to be in the "negotiate a settlement amongst yourselves or have one imposed" stage. A number of the applicants might wind up in timeshare deals; for instance Rice University will get 96.1 for eight hours a day unless something is worked out with other applicants for the frequency.

Update: According to recnet.com, the two 95.1's appear to have worked out their time sharing schedule. Monday through Friday one will be on midnight to noon with the other on noon to midnight. The schedule will flip at the beginning of each month. The Tomball station (KTTF-LP) will get the entire day on Saturday, while the Spring station (KLJJ-LP) gets all of Sunday. Of course this could be revised further should the two stations mutually agree on something.
