Two more shows axed: "Last Resort" and "666 Park Avenue"

"Last Resort" was the dumbest and most poorly written TV show since Star Trek. It deserved to die following the 2nd episode.

And the suits at ABC deserve a share of the blame for putting this miserable show up against the two top shows on TV. What did they expect to happen....even if this show was good enough? Idiots!

How the hell do these people get these jobs anyway?

I really do love "666" & Vanessa Williams. I think Vanessa needs to give up acting and start recording her new album for 2013, and a road trip. Vanessa was talking about her show on "Ellen" yesterday, and guess what? TPTB over at ABC has just pulled it off the schedule. and so, they've got 8 shows left to be shown, and it looks like it's a sad for everybody associated with "666"; The whole cast & crew got pink-slipped before Thanksgiving Week.

Not that I am an expert on program development or scheduling but a fourth-grader could have probably done a better job on "Last Resort". Here is my list of reasons why LR failed in no particular order:

1. Quality. LR was supposed to be a military/political/sci-fi drama and those types of shows appeal predominately to males. Unfortunately, males make up only the smaller portion of non-sports TV viewers so the show needs to be good to get the appropriate numbers. LR was far from good.

2. Cost. This type of show is expensive to produce. In addition to its rather large cast, it is on location in Hawaii which is among the most expensive locations in which to film. It also requires the use of CGI which is also expensive. To offset the expense of producing it needs great demo numbers. It didn't get them.

3. Time slot. Who(m)ever the dumbsquats in suits are at ABC that put this show up against the two most popular sitcoms on TV at the moment ought to be thrown in the East River wearing a pair of cement sneakers. Anyone who looked at the season's schedule could have figured out that most anything in this time slot was doomed to at least a 2nd place finish with little hope for anything better. Very bad scheduling for ABC.

4. Cast. Ludicrous - and I don't mean the band. With only one or two exceptions this cast is the most miscast group of "actors" ever to grace a show. Wooden Hollywood "pretty boys" and pole dancers.

5. Writing. A disaster. For anyone even remotely connected to real world politics and/or the American military, particularly the navy, this show might as well be a Japanese anime cartoon.

Anyone thinking this piece of crap actually had a chance now has a textbook case study on how NOT to produce a show of this type.

Personally, the real losers of "Last Resort" is the State of Hawaii and the film comission, who were hoping to generate jobs around this series. And with "Hawaii Five-0" showing signs of slippage in the ratings, this is not looking good for anyone who works behind the scenes in the Aloha State.

Meanwhile one has to wonder how long before we have a "Ugly Betty Thursday Night Curse" on our hands with Williams' "666 Park Avenue" and former co-star Michael Urie's "Partners" both axed on the same day, along with Sony striking out with that Thursday Night time slot (both "Last Resort" and "Charlie's Angels") and seeing Australian Rachael Taylor (who both starred in "Angels" and "666") once again being out of a job due to starring in short-lived American TV shows.

ABC renewed "Body of Proof" starring Dana Delany, another Desperate Housewife like Williams though. So, possibly it returns to the schedule by January or so.

However too many cast changes including the loss of Sonja Sohn, from "The Wire", playing Samantha Baker. It's too bad, they should have kept her and expanded her role, as her work/role on "The Wire" was much better than what they gave her on this show. Instead, the show keeps the annoying characters, with emphasis on the daughter and the lab guys.

Not that I want to say I told you so...but I told you so when it came to my prediction that "Last Resort" wouldn't be on for a full season.

I stopped watching it after four episodes.
