Two NBC stations for Jackson TN?

I have the best results with Google. In this case I searched:

wbbj fybush site:radiodiscussions.com

Even still, it was the seventh result on the page.

I think that I didn't put in the "site:" variable although I had everything else. At least I'll know for next time. Thanks! :)

Looks like Jackson is trying to become its own market with all Big Four networks instead of basically a glorified Memphis sub-market

Are you saying that the entire population of Jackson got together to hold a mass meeting to come up with a plan to accomplish this? Did all the people of Jackson unite in this laudable quest? Have they applied for government grants to fund this important campaign? Just how does a minor town with only 65,211 pull itself up by its own bootstraps to become an independent market? If they really want to be a bigger deal than just a suburb of Memphis, shouldn't they worry about more important things than how many network affiliate TV stations they have? I mean, it's the eighth largest city in Tennessee. Shouldn't they maybe try something a little easier, like moving up from having a AA baseball team to a AAA team? It is the 9th most dangerous metropolitan area in the United States. Do you think that maybe they might work on cleaning up the crime instead of having the entire city band together to get all Big Four networks?

Jackson isn't really a Memphis suburb. It's about 70 miles from Memphis. Jackson has been considered a separate TV market for years now just like Jonesboro Arkansas and Tupelo Mississippi which are about the same distance from Memphis as well. But I agree with Firepoint hat just because Jackson has been able to get the other big 4 networks on subchannels and low power stations doesn't make it a major market. I'm sure this is happening in other cities the size of Jackson as well.

It is. Bowling Green, KY, has a full-fledged ABC affil, but their NBC is (I believe) just a subchannel, and does not have any local news, only a repeating weather forecast. And they get CBS from Newschannel5 here in Nashville, which is somewhat unusual for us to be traveling, and still be able to see our hometown TV channel (and my personal fave, by the way) on a motel room TV.

Yeah, anyone who thinks that Jackson is a "suburb" of Memphis either has not looked at a map of Tennessee lately, or is into REALLY long commutes! It is far enough that there is at least one rest area (in each direction) on I-40 in west TN between Memphis and Jackson.

As I always say, leave Tennessee for the Tennesseans!

If you want to count from the other edges of the Memphis metro area to the outer edge of Jackson on I 40 it's about 50 miles but that's still far enough out to not be considered a suburb and you have Brownsville in between them.

Amy Watson, morning news anchor at Newschannel5, supposedly lives in Hopkinsville! That is 77 miles from Nashville! Since she is a morning anchor, she must get up at 2:00 a.m.! Maybe even earlier now that they are on at 4:00!

I remember seeing her on WPSD-channel 6 in Paducah, back when I lived in the weststate. Apparently, she lived in Hoptown back then, as well, and apparently transferred to Newschannel5 without ever moving!

When I lived in Clarksville, I thought that even that was too far for commuting to Nashville, although it is my understanding that there are those who do. Clarksville is not far enough from Nashville to have any of their own network affils, but it seems to me that there is enough news happening there for all the local stations to establish news bureaus there, although none ever have.

I believe that the ABC affiliate is the only one with an actual local newscast. They may have network programming on other channels (as I observed by channel-surfing in our motel room), but the only CBS channel that I observed having an actual local newscast was Newschannel5 from here in Nashville. Still great to see my local channel in out-of-town motel room.

Jackson has My Network TV on WYJJ-LD but CW is coming in from CW plus on both Charter and JEA cable.

WNBJ-LD NBC 39 is hoping to go on the air next week (looks like Monday or Tuesday), (And meet their goal by going on the air by the end of September ).

They are almost done negotiating with Dish, Direct TV, and Charter for coverage of their station.

The deals with Dish and Direct TV are done, WNBJ-LD will be on the air tomorrow October 1 (It will be on air as NBC 39). They are still trying to negotiating with Charter apparently.

I hear WNBJ-LD is in fact on the air, but on Dish Network only right now. Can anyone confirm this?

yes its on Dish as of 10/1 on channel 39. Confirmed by a Dish member in the Jackson market

not uplinked on Directv yet. Those folks still get WMC from Memphis as their NBC

from the NBC39 facebook page yesterday

As of about 11:30am today, we have confirmation from Dish Network that WNBJ is LIVE ON THE AIR! Jackson's NBC39 is a reality - for some of you, that is. DirecTV will follow soon. Over-the-Air could happen by week's end. Subscribed to Charter? JEA cable? You can't see us just yet. If your schedule allows, please give them a call. Tell them you're looking for Jackson's NBC! More later...(cs)

According to their Facebook page WNBJ has a deal with DirecTV and should be on there soon, but there is still nothing on OTA, or Charter or JEA Cable. It seems odd to me that they would be on over Dish and DirecTV before being on OTA.

Also, will the deals with Dish and DirecTV cause them to drop WMC? I don't really like that idea.
