Two new AM catches in St. Louis

Monday morning at 5:30 am CDT, I was finally able to confirm KFI, with a weather forecast "in the KFI Weather Center." So, I decided to check some of the other 50 kW California frequencies for any sort of new catch. Landing on 810 kHz shortly after 6:00 am, I caught what I thought was a dull, small-town local newscast until I heard a commercial for a fish-and-chip shop in Freeport, segueing into a sportscast with the tagline, "Your source in the North for sports." Turns out I received ZNS3 from Freeport, Bahamas. Even more amazing (to me) is that it's listed at only 1 kW.

That's only two new stations for my AM logbook, but I couldn't ask for two better stations than that.

Wow--1kw from the Bahamas is a good catch.

Did ZNS run more power in the 80s. I did log it once in Ohio. I remember listening to it in broad daylight cruising down I95 near Miami

I'm pretty sure I had KFI a few nights ago here in Northern Illinois, but wasn't able to confirm. They're certainly doing better up and down the west coast at night now that they've got their new stick up and running and are back at 50kw.

KFI came in fine when I was recently in Hawaii even with a local on 650 in Honolulu.
