Two possible solutions for 680.

Ok, we are all in agreement that the station sucks and outside of Buck and Kincade, is a loser. But what to do, what to do? Here are two possible ideas:

6a-9a - Imus in the Morning (already on 1340, only carry the 3 hours that are also on MSNBC; most of you guys dont like Imus but I personally do)
9a-12p - Tony Bruno (1340 is a SNR affiliate)
12p-3p - Jim Rome (I understand that this part is a stretch, but something could be worked out); or run whoever SNR has on at that timespot (James Brown?)
3p-7p - Buck and Kincade

or.....

6a-10a - Rude Awakening
10a-1p The Herd with Colin Cowherd (this guy is up on college football, i think he would play well in Atlanta)
1p-3p Dan Patrick
3p-7p Buck and Kincade

Very interesting. How can 680 be ESPN and 1340 be SNR? Sounds unusual for two stations run by the same local owner being afiliates with competing networks.

Also a good plan. Anything that gets the political talk off of 680 is a plus. I would also like to see the return of Souther Sports Tonight if that show is still running. Yes, I miss Max's voice. I like him a lot! I also found his daily dinner menu very interesting and quite appetizing!

Also Is there any chance we can get rid of the gambling infomercials on the weekend-At least on Sunday mornings?

I wish they would go back to "STARDUST 680" and play the great
standards like they did in the 80's. It would be better than the
crap they have on now that noboby listens too.

I agree with BDB. Bring back Max's show in some form, and drop Oh,Really(?) down to 1340. Sporting News Radio would be good to have on there along with Dan Patrick.By the way,did you know that SNR is what was originally One-on-One Sports & before that,Sports Entertainment Network, which is what the original 680 The Fan had from 1993-97? This is how we met Scott Ferrall & Arnie Spanier.

The second plan looks more promising, given 680's ties with ESPN. Considering his Atlanta ties, I wondered how Dan Patrick ended up banished to 1340.

Local in the morning and local in afternoon drive, with two fairly strong national shows sandwiched in between, and Thrashers hockey/ESPN Gamenight @ night. I think it'd work.
______________

Ughhhh Rome sucks that would be a bad move.

The herd is average but not that good, Patrick is ok but I still dont know why 680 keeps canning people that seem to be doing ok.
______________

My only concern is having some national sports feed as a permanent fixture. I want to hear local hosts talk about regional sports. There are always those weekend ESPN feeds for people who want that.

ABSOLUTELY! Either that or just turn the transmitter off and let the station fade away. That frequency with that small amount of power can only do one of two things...MOYL or Spanish. Unfortunately, the Sports Radio format just doesn't work unless you have a LOT of games to broadcast.

I vote for MOYL!

They have 50,000 watts in the daytime. They should be able to do something that works.

I don't think Stardust 680 would work. Its hard to sell advertising to the 65 to death age demographic.

Like it or not, it appears 680 The Fan is here to stay, no matter bad the ratings are. At least they have the Thrashers.

Kinda the point of this thread. The station isnt going away; I probably won't ever become a regular listener to the station but I do listen to DP on 1340 when I can pick it up and wouldnt mind at least hearing SOMETHING between 12-1 now that C. Smith has officially polluted Matt Chernoff's career and 790's airwaves.

I love the guy who's solution to everything is Music For Your Life; Dude, you might not like sports radio and it may not generate amazing ratings, but they at least bill pretty good. NOBODY wants to hear elevator music. Sorry.

I would like to see Scott Ferrall back in Atlanta. They should put him on the Rude Awakening, and gradually transition him to the host. After that, I agree with that second schedule posted (Cowherd, Patrick, Buck & Kincade).

I don't really hate sports radio, in fact I have a friend who
works for the Hawks and does some sports talk from time to time.
It seems everytime I tune in to sports talk they all are yelling
at each other and that get's old. MOYL is NOT elevator music and not
for the 65 plus either. The average listener is 35 and up today. The playlist
has expanded and includes artist like The Beatles, Carly Simon,James Taylor,
and new artist like John Mayer, and Nora Jones. Along with the classic
standards it's a great format with music you can understand and stood
the test of time. Atlanta does not really need TWO sports stations.Sorry!

Yeah, I dont really hate the MFYL format, either. I used to listen to 1070 (i may be wrong on the frequency here) fairly regularly and enjoyed hearing old standards and the like.

I think Atlanta can support 2 sports stations, though. Football season alone makes it viable. My point was that one of these stations REALLY SUCKS and could use an overhaul.
Edit: oops, just read your post about thinking that Savage is the best thing on WSB and that Clark only needs two hours. I tried to be nice but now I think that you are a Nazi and an Idiot. Sorry, dude.

Nazi and Idiot...That's not very nice! You hurt my feelings!
DUDE! I don't agree with everything Savage say's, just find him
entertaining and well educated, so maybe you should listen and learn
something.

> I think Atlanta can support 2 sports stations, though.

Agreed. Last time I checked, New York had the original heritage sports station, WFAN, as well as ESPN Radio 1050. There's also 670 The Score and ESPN 1000 in Chicago. Even a small market like Albany, Ga. has two sports stations.

Possible solutions for 680.

Okay, here are some solutions for 680:

1) Hire a waiter from the Olive Garden to host the midday show. Try to get other restaurant employees with no radio experience to host shows.

2) For your morning show, hire a burned out Rock Jock who's been fired from 12 different stations in Atlanta. Make sure this Rock Jock knows absolutely nothing about sports.

3) To save money, don't hire a program director. Promote one of your board operators and let him make all the critical programming decisions.

4) Put a political talk show on in the middle of your sports lineup.

5) Cut your promotions and programming budget, slash personnel, and use the residual revenue to buy additional yachts for David Dickey.

By following these suggestions, 680 will achieve its goal of getting a .7 in every ratings book!

Are we just a little bitter? When did they fire you?

Then call the 303 area code

Then make a phone call to the city of Denver and find out how much Dino Costa wants to re-locate to Atlanta to save sports radio in this town.
