Two questions for AM radio operator/engineers

What part of the of US has the best electro-conductivity for AM RF?

And

What is your favorite AM audio processor for maximum radius extension and sound depth? (is Orban still the leader?)

heres a map of Ground conductivity in the U.S

Unless you want a wall-sized map (assuming you have the means to produce one) it's best to download the zip files and then check out specific areas, since the individual maps are much easier to read. I have all of them.

There are a couple of other important points to remember, though. These are very old maps and they show approximate (averaged, if you will) ground conductivity around the country. Additionally, there can be wide variations within particular areas which often won't be evident until an engineering study of ground conductivity for a specific location is done.

I had forgotten all about that chart, it's been years. Thank you liberty, perfect. That's just what I needed for this assignment. I'm guessing the Orban 9400 is still the best for AM processing. However, if someone knows of a newer, more effective product (higher or lower cost than Orban), it would be greatly appreciated. Besides a few 'friend' AM jobs, I haven't done any real work on AM sticks in eons. FM, now that's another story...:)

Orban audio processing is some mighty fine stuff. Hard to beat it.
Most stations run their Optimod by itself, but I've found if you put a Compellor in front of it, it will keep the Optimod operating in its "sweet zone" and sound AWESOME.

It's way overkill, but at my station in Gainesville, this is the audio chain:

CONSOLE
APHEX COMPELLOR
ORBAN 111B REVERB
APHEX DOMINATOR
ORBAN OPTIMOD 9200
TRANSMITTER

Of course, we're 250 watts day and night trying to get every ounce out of it (..and DO!)
