Yet another Cyberdad road trip this past week. This one to the Southwest. I didn't give you guys a heads-up in advance, because I realized I probably wasn't going to have much time for DX. Which indeed turned out to be the case. In addition, as I also suspected, some of the hotels were definitely not DX-friendly. But I did manage to sneak in a couple of truncated nighttime sessions with the SRF 37, and here are a few highlights....
LITTLE ROCK:
610: KCSP sounding almost exactly as it does at home. Which means fair-good. And steady.
630: St. Louis (ex: KXOK, KJSL) good...rather impressive for 5kw
640: Something of a jumble, but did positively ID KFI
650: WSM fair
670: WSCR weak, but no trace of Cuba
700: WLW fair
720: WGN fair-good
740: All KRMG here
750: WSB weaker than I expected
760: WJR weak
780: WBBM fair
820: WBAP good
830: A moderately strong Spanish signal here. I presume New Orleans, but not sure. Mixing with a weaker WCCO
840: WHAS fair-weak
850: KOA fair-weak
870: WWL fair-good
890: WLS good. Best Chicago signal.
920: KARN Good local signal, but stuff audible underneath (My location was a hotel on the west side of town.
1000: Was wondering if WMVP could make it here. But what I heard was KTOK (fair), mixing with a weaker XEOY
1040: WHO good
1070: KNX Identifiable in the mix. Stronger than KFI
1080: KRLD good. KAAY no problem
1090: KAAY good, but not exactly a killer signal.
1120: KMOX fair. Weaker than I expected
1180: A noisy mess. Seemingly all in Spanish. Presume R. Marti and Cuba
1200: WOAI good. No surprise here.
1220: I had a fairly steady signal alone and on top here. Mostly talk. My first guess was XEB, but I'm not sure if they're still on.
1510: WLAC good. Best signal on the upper end of the dial.
1570: XERF with a respectable signal. Apparently they're still rolling along (at least for the time being) with their 30kw or whatever.
Santa Fe, NM....
610: KNML A semi-local sports talker from Albuquerque, 55 miles away. 5kw aimed pretty much at me, but still only a fair signal.
640: KFI fair
670: KBOI fair-weak
680: No KNBR, which suprised me. Not much of anything else, either.
710: KNUS good. Another suprise, but their tight pattern was aimed right at me.
740: I was looking for KCBS. It was in there, but well underneath KVOR. (Colorado Springs)
770: KKOB effectively a local
800: There was a fairly strong Spanish station underneath the flea-powered local on 810. XEROK?
820: WBAP good. No issues with the local 810 pest.
850: KOA blasting. No surprise
880: KRVN even stronger than KOA. Easily the best skywave signal
950: KRWZ 5kw from Denver doing a nice job
1000: XEOY weak but on top. I was hoping for KOMO, but I didn't hear it.
1040: WHO fair
1070: KNX fair
1080: KRLD good
1110: KFAM fair
1160: KSL fair
1200: WOAI good
1520: KOMA fair at best. They're apparently still on STA. In my past experiences in New Mexico, they've usually had a good signal.
1570: XERF. Signal and audio both good. If their transmitter is ailing and not long for this world, I wouldn't have known it based on what I heard.
