Station Sales Week Of 1/23 Last Updated on January 25, 2015 at 3:14 pm Ann Jones’ Peach Holdings is making a pair of acquisitions as it purchases Great South Wireless’ Classic Hits 97.7 WHPH Jemison, AL for $1.6 million and 99.1 W256CD Fultondale/Birmingham from Shelby Broadcast Associates for $300,000.

wow, i've heard many good things about the peach over the years....why would you fix something that isn't broken?
then again, ask "mix 96.9" that... lol

(the points made about "mix" vs "lite" in terms of age skewing are valid, i'll give them that)
 
RDP, when you sent me this info via email today, my first thoughts were possibly that the new owners were going to use the 99.1 translator to rebroadcast "Peach" into Birmingham, but that wouldn't be possible (would it?), as W256CD is outside WHPH's coverage area, anyway. I'm still wondering how all the pieces of this puzzle fit together, though. I doubt anything would be done with the "Peach's" format. What else would they attempt, format-wise, that isn't already being done in Birmingham now?

Would it be possible to rebroadcast Peach into Birmingham on the translator? It would if they leased an HD subchannel of a Birmingham FM or a Birmingham AM.

I don't think it would be smart to change the format considering they are pretty much Birmingham's only oldies station. Though I don't know about the owner, I do know they it might be smart and they absolutely could re-broadcast into Birmingham using the 99.1 translator they would need to do it like this: 1. Less Likely Option: Get WYDE 1260 AM and 101.1 HD 2, 99.1 and WHPH 97.7. 2. Most Likely Option: Get WENN 1320 AM, WEZZ 97.3 HD 3, 99.1, 97.7.
 
I'm still trying to figure out this connection between the sale of WHPH, SummitMedia and WEZZ. The current owners of WHPH, Great South Wireless, have worked with SummitMedia in the past, so it's not entirely implausible that the new owners would have some sort of relationship with SummitMedia. Summit Media obviously had to work with Great South in the past in order to get permission to share the WEZZ calls (for 97.3 to use the WEZZ-FM calls), since Great South's AM 930 is WEZZ. And, of course, ironically enough, WHPH used to be WEZZ-FM themselves before becoming the "Peach". I just found this a few minutes ago, postulating the idea that the new owners of WHPH could actually be a "shell company" for SummitMedia. Someone also mentioned that the Peach employees will move to SummitMedia, and that WEZZ might change formats...again....

Went by the WKLF, WZNN and WHPH?!? studio, a few days ago, while visiting Clanton. That place looked like a ghost town. Has WHPH moved already? Will WKLF and WZNN get new owners and move soon too? Didn't even see a tower for WKLF. All I saw was an antenna parked next to some rubbish.

RDP, if you think about it, Summit Media wouldn't even have to move WHPH's transmitter and tower closer to Birmingham for a better signal. They could simply swap the 97.3 and 97.7 calls and formats. In doing so, WHPH would have an improved signal over Birmingham than what it has now, and the WEZZ-FM calls would return to their previous home at 97.7. Two questions remain, though: Given that Easy 97.3 has done so poorly in the ratings and that their primary talent, Ericka Woode, is no longer with Summit Media (and that is true btw because Ericka's Facebook profile states so), would it be advantageous to move "Easy's" soft adult contemporary format to 97.7, which has an even weaker signal over Birmingham than what 97.3 offers? The other piece of the puzzle, the 99.1 translator (W256CD)...how would that fit into the picture of a 97.3/97.7 swap, unless 99.1 is going to be used to rebroadcast WENN-AM or another one of SummitMedia's HD channels?
