This appears to be some strange technical situation. Both stations are on Banner Mt. in Nevada County. KVMR's coordinates are 39 14 47.00, 120 57 48.00 [NAD 27] (http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=176615). However, KVMR has a tower location of 39 14 47.0, 120 57 52.0 [NAD 84] or 39 14 47.38, 120 57 48.20 [NAD 27].
Meanwhile, KJPT has coordinates are 39 14 47.00, 120 57 48.00 [NAD 27] (http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=176615). These are the same as KVMR. KJPT's tower is at 39 14 46.6, 120 57 51.8 [NAD 84] or 39 14 46.98, 120 57 48.0.
Can anyone help me understand how two stations can have the same official coordinates and yet have towers that are a few hundred feet away from each other. Does this have something to do with rounding of coordinates? If so, it seems strange that the FCC reports coordinates to the 1/100s decimal but doesn't actually use them.
Thanks for your thoughts.
