Two Peoria radio stations, WOAM 1350 and WPMJ-FM 94.3, will not be on the air Friday after their abrupt closing by station owner Bob Kelly "for financial reasons."
Radio staff members were informed Thursday morning that it would be the last day for broadcasting from studios at 3641 N. Meadowbrook Road, where both stations are located, said Roger Monroe, co-host of WOAM's "Breakfast with Royce and Roger." [EDIT]

I know that stations do go dark, never to be heard from again. But they are usually the fringe players or from towns that are dwindling in size. WOAM (nee WEEK) has a significant history in Peoria. It was a major player at one time.
I have been wondering when our financial troubles will have us see more and more of this kind of thing. When chains start to have difficulty raising Capital and decide putting out a signal is the only way to save money. I can think of a handful of "rim shots" that could eventually fit this bill.
Can you?
