In a major market you have to guarantee share points just like television does…in market 821 if you triple your share, it does not translate nor guarantee an increase in revenue – realize that the market has about a total of 25 radio sales reps and 5 of them account for about 90% of all local radio revenue…the other 20 reps contribute to increased sales at the Waffle House and Premiere Theaters.

What's your point?

if you have to ask the question, you already know the answer.

Sales, particularly media sales, can be the easiest low-paying job, or one of the hardest high-paying jobs. Each rep can decide which one he or she wants.

I'm with Vicky: What's your point?

In a major market, virtually all radio business is agency business, so there is more of a direct correlation between revenue & ratings. In these small markets, where 80-90% of business is direct (non-agency), things like relationships, service, reliabilty and personal preferences come into play. But doesn't everyone know this? Are you talking about SC or Altoona or Jtown or Wmpt... or just bitching in general about how rating jumps don't translate immediately into dollars?

> As I have said before, when markets 200 and up start trying to figue out the $16,000 they have laid out actually benefits them or not...it really doesnt...and when the smaller markets start looking at other ratings measuring companies that are out there...then the 5 top reps will take those expensive survey results and turn what they can into revenue.....that leaves the others as killawatt so eloquently put it sopping up the leftover syrup with a piece of emerils famous crusty bread......some of the more succesful radio reps have been former programming folks who have decided to write their own checks instead of being at the mercy of a corporate culture that cosistently underpays talent because there are more of them out there than we need. No one assigned you the job...you took it eyes wide open....execute it or move on...try markets 100 and up its more realistic and unforgiving for you adventurous types.
